I would say he has declined quite alot, look at those lead left hooks that he knocked down Corrales with you don't ever see that now. Look at how little he throws 3 or 4 punch combinations? But he adapted immediately and he controls the ring and tempo of the fight. In the boxing ring he is very smart fighter.
Im not quite sure if he has declined (probably a little due to age which is only natural) or that he sacrificed some of his speed to gain more strength. In the periods that he took the layoffs and vacations he obviously went to the gym and muscledup, previously he had to run and backpedal vs the Baldomirs out there because they could physicly impose themselves. I get the feeling he made a calculated decision to become physicly stronger which also allows him to expend less energy. He sacrificed a little speed but as hes still faster than almost anyone not named Pac he is fine. The Floyd that fought Baldomir would never been able to outwrestle Mosely.
Of course he's declined. His best weight was Super Featherweight and always will be. That being said despite mayweather being a shadow of what he previously was, his style makes up for his decline in power and 'bad' hands so although he may be only 80% or so if what he was he's still the best on the planet today
Thats why Floyd cherrypicks opponants who are small (Hatton/Marquez) or over the hill/damaged (Mosley) or mentally ******ed/grinning simpleton (Ortiz) & avoids clear & present dangers such as Pac & Sergio. Floyds a con man pure & simple who'll never take on a live opponant as thats the end of the bull**** "I'am undefeated" which means i'am better than SRR
Floyd is definitely beatable. He's not some invincible superhero as some *****s on this thread are making out
While I had him winning every round, the Floyd that fought Ortiz didn't look like the same Floyd that fought Mosley. It could have been ring rust and inactivity, but the last time he had that length of time off (after Hatton), he put on a masterpiece performance against Marquez (not arguing about the legitimacy of the Marquez fight, don't care to get too much into that, just the performance displayed). So I suppose in short: no, he's not prime. But he's not shot. He's got the style (and had the "breaks") to allow him to fight at the elite level for another few years, imo.
I really don't like seeing this walk you down floyd, I know he good enough to do it, but he allows himself to get hit with shots he never would have in his prime days when he used his feet. This new style is fan friendly and it also gives the haters a chance that floyd at this point in his career could actually lose.
Floyd will be around for a few more years yet & HBO will make sure of that as they'll not risk their cash cow getting wiped out anytime soon so expect another 4/5 fights against GBP cans & free-agents looking for a last meaningful payday.
I'm hoping he looked different because he was fighting a big southpaw (therefore fought relatively flat footed and walked him down)
Hold on what about Gatti, Corrales, Castillo, Mosely, Ortiz, De La Hoya! Come on now if you are going to make a point at least try to make it a reasonable one. In most of his fights Floyd is the smaller, less weighing man! If Mosely was damaged/over the hill firstly can you tell me who damaged him? Secondly what was he when he fought Pacquaio two fights later? atsch He isn't better than SRR or Ali but imo he is the best that is fighting today.
