i was surprised to learn he is only 31 years old. And he has done little since losing to Usyk. Do you think he has underachieved?

I don’t think so. I think Gassiev and Briedis are good fighters at Cruiserweight but they are not the dragon slayers Usyk fans make them out to be.

Well he had the opportunity to join the next world series and decided to try HW instead so ultimately that's on him.

But he's a great CW though.

Briedis certainly was. For example do you really believe a peak Joshua beats a peak Briedis? No of course you don’t so clearly Briedis is pretty damn good

Why? Because of Briedis reign of terror at Heavyweight of exactly 0 fights?

Gassiev has heavy hands but he is a pretty average boxer. I think he is still a strong gatekeeper ATM in the HWs.

It's hardly a secret that when in his prime, healthy and active even the CW version of Gassiev was knocking out and bashing up a lot of highly ranked HWs in the gym. But obviously this was pre him being racked with injuries, multiple surgeries, and the inactivity when his heart was actually in the game. He had only fought 4 times in 5 years going into the Wallin fight and none of those fights during those 5 years were against anyone with a pulse

And I have no idea why he came in at 217 for that fight which would've been close to what he was coming in at CW when he'd been coming in about 15-20lbs more than since moving up to HW

He's had injuries. Broken both arms. He may have a good run yet. Or he may never get over those injuries.

There was talk recently of him fighting Pulev for the WBA regualr ol' championship, but talk the media buzz seems to be Pulev and Miller. In his fight against Ljunquist, he showed his patented hook to the body at full strength for the fits time since years, and if he gets the Pulev, he will win that minor belt and get his second run.

You don't have to fight at heavyweight to be reasonably favored over certain heavyweights. His performance against Usyk was better than the heavyweights Usyk has faced any many heavies are just fat cruiserweights

He actually started as a heavy and KO'd Charr when Charr could actually fight a bit.

Also beat Perez who was fairly successful as a heavy, although yes, the fight was at cruiser.

Watched some gassiev the other day. He does not even have a jab just comes forward throwing hooks. Looked pretty average to me, yet all I keep hearing was how great he is.

Fair enough. That still doesn’t make me believe he beats prime Joshua. I don’t know what prime Joshua means to people. But I think Prime Joshua is a long time ago. Before the Ruiz fight.

I like them both. I am not sure on the Joshua hate...sometime people forget the other guy wants to win too. He's had a good run in my book.
