How much impact do commentators have on the publics interpretation of a fight?

It's possible, but for a big fight, think of the environment most people are in. During Cotto-Mayweather, my dad, cousin, and myself basically supplanted the commentary team. Once in a while their conversation would get through, but I'd either agree or disagree and move on watching the fight and talkin **** with the peeps around me.

Sheridan was slurping Floyd dick like there was no tomorrow.

The HBO team always slurp Manny P dick. Like in the Marquez 3 fight. I just shake my head, it rarely influences me.

That was bad. I think HBO's bias is usually exaggerated, but there are a few key nights, like the one you mentioned, where it's just obvious worship.

Boxnation is just horrible, I think the guy commentating with khan probably had it 119-109 for JMM in the pac fight when it was much closer.

I just go against the comentary

Good question, I'm usually good at making my own mind up, a good commentator is impartial.

Alot. They can skew the way you percieve a shot bieng landed and the overall mood of a fight.

Thankfully most of the time they are on the ball.

sometimes they do say ridiculous things though and fail to pick up on big things.

    same in most sports though.

Formula 1 they fail terribly at commentating sometimes.

I know they dont influence me.

But if i had the option to see the fight without hearing the commentators but get to hear everything else, that would be the perfect scenario for me and would make the experience of watching the fight more enjoyable.

For me none, specially those that never put the gloves on! And i'm aware they are biased when it comes to some fighters so i dont pay attention to them when i score a fight. Lampley can get very excited about some punches that did not even land, or act like nothing when some fighter he isnt rooting for lands good shot!

God, they manipulate you like you don't know where you are at the midstage of a fight. Those Lederman scorecards, those Lampley yells, those Max, Manny and Larry comments, you simply can't make it out for yourselves if you pay attention to them and really there is corruption behind HBO and Commissions to make fights happen, to go back on results and even judges give exatcly the same scores Lederman gives... It is b'cause Lederman knows it better?? No! It's cause the Media controls this since the PPV are more important than the tickets sold at ringside, they even call out the fighters from the rooms with entrance songs and this is all BS. This has become the "Truman Show" in boxing. The only guys I give credit to are Al Bernstein, Dwyer and the Islander in the web, that's it!

    And how.

I watched the BoxNation broadcast of Mayweather-Cotto. Granted, it was not an all-out brawl nor a complete domination by Floyd, but they sure thought so. - And so did I (at the time.) I was actually bored watching the fight.

A few days later, I watched the HBO re-broadcast, and suddenly realized that Cotto was actually giving a very credible performance. Still not a great fight, but certainly entertaining.

Now, I know boxing as well as anyone here, yet I succumbed to those dick-riding commentators. What chance does the general public have of not being influenced?
