I know boxers in the Chicago area who have to sell tickets, and buy there own fights. They ate pretty much fighting for free. If they sign with a manager, and he is buying his fight when the fighter gets a 100,000 dollar fight he is going to have to pay the guy back. It's so tough to make money in boxing.
Not true. Maybe if you are elite level, but lots of good fighters make peanuts, even more dont even get a chance in the spotlight.
Depends on the country level of taxes, level of the boxer, belt taxes if his champion, training costs, coach, manager, nutritionist, strength conditioner etc. A boxer remains between 30% to 60% of the money earned for the fight.
Some say Don King made more money than Tyson himself. An example of managing his money and carreer is Maywheater who is managed by his own company, traines in his own gym, coached by his uncle etc.he cut the costs to the minimum ,excluding any intermediaries that would cost him money.
Listen to this interview where Steve Cunningham tells what happened to his "100,000". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFfHlaK7cWg
Far less than people imagine, at the top but not elite level. I know of a top15 middleweight who earns something like 2k euro per fight....... look at Zbik, got 5k euro for his promised 100-150k against Sturm....
Not true, depends what level you are, when starting out - 10% trainer, 15-20% manager, the purse is sometimes the final from the promoter and he takes from the gate, then other costs such as transport but at this stage you will be fighting domestic so more of a car trip away. I think realistically about 65% of your purse you can keep. But at the higher levels, you can alter your %, a $1 million purse you don't neccesairly need to pay your trainer $100k for an 8 week training camp, I.e Marquez only pays his trainer $50k out of $6 million.
It's 13 minutes too long, for a simple piece of information... Edit: Scroll to 1 minute in, and he will speak about it for the next couple of minutes
Basically said His manager was taking 20 something % but was also his trainer so was taking another 10%, then Don King was digging out of his pocket etc and also had to pay Polish Taxes of 20% But Taxes are always on your net, you shouldn't be paying on your gross you declare your expenses first. then pay tax on whatever is left.
I remember someone (i think a commentator) saying that the top 2% of boxers earn 90% of the cash, or summat along those lines. Don't know how true that is, but it makes sense considering how many journey men there are (that earn a few grand a fight) and how many Floyd Mayweather's (top boxers earning millions) 'there are'.
