And what would 15 million Dollars be as a percentage of that? Also how much does GBP usually make from a Canelo fight? My point being yes Canelo makes more money than Golovkin and maybe he and GBP have a right to demand a good cut of that money but this fight will generate more than than his average because he is facing Golovkin. Its a big occasion because of them both and i think its the biggest fight to be made in the sport. 15 million would probably be a shockingly low percentage, I have no doubt K2 are a devious and greedy outfit, weve seen how they have negotiated with opponents of the Klitchko brothers but a fight of this size even a real humble promoter would say no to a flat 15 million.
This isn't a big fight, don't let Oscar fool you. AJ/Fury/Haye/Wilder are all bigger fights than this in the UK. Broner/Garcia/Crawford do bigger numbers in the states. Ward Kovalev 2 are more significant. If anyone disagrees please enlighten me as to how significant this fight is for either guy? The only guy who potentially wins big here legacy wise is Mayweather.. If Canelo wins then people will say Floyd>Canelo>GGG
I am sure this must be the most anticipated fight to be made, and if it was at 160 then surely it would be for Golovkins belts so i think the significance is mo lesser than the other fights you have mentioned. Huge in Mexico, surely huge in America and im in the UK and the part time Boxing fans at work or friends ask me about GGG alot more than people like Wilder or even Canelo
Well let's look at history. Who knew that ODLH vs Mayweather would sell 2.5 million PPVs? Yet, he was guaranteed $25 million ( Thank you Al Haymon) before a venue was even chosen. Who can Canelo fight at this point, besides Pac-Man, that's going to get him those Mayweather numbers? If this fight with Chavez JR sells close or over a million and GGG vs Jacobs does bad numbers, then K2 will have to concede to Canelo for that $15 million. To be fair to Canelo he has taken "flat fees" in all of his big fights where he was B-side , so what makes Golovkin different? He has no one to help him sell anything. He is cashing out and I don't fault him either. GBP can throw GG a $20 million flat rate but 60/40 won't cut it. We all know that Mexicans are buying those Canelo Views and we will see who gets the blame if GGG vs Jacobs bottoms out. ( I say they blame Danny, because every Haymon fighter is SUPPOSED to sell Floyd numbers, right?! )
golovkin fans will find someone to blame...they always do...everyone and anyone but golovkin or k2...that much you can count on
At least 750K which in the current state of PPV would be like 1.2M+ that Pac and Floyd would bring in fighting so-so opponents.
HBO analysts have said 80m-120m so 100m is a good average going by that, so 15% plus a PPV upside that we don't know the details of. Golovkin can make the 15m in 2-3 fights and he is active so that's just a year. Canelo is his biggest potential fight . Also, I think Oscar trusts the numbers of the analysts. Golovkin's team certainly trusts them.
How big is this fight? Less big than Cotto V Canelo I'd say. Less big than Joshua V Wlad. It probably isn't even as big as Canelo vs Chávez. That's when considering numbers. When considering importance I'd say it's about as big as Ward V Kovalev. Either way I don't care about monetary split, I just hope Golovkin takes the money and makes the fight happen.
