How much money in PPV would Tyson make today if he was in his prime today?

He made $400 million during the course of his career. I am pretty certain he would have been the first $billion dollar boxer had he been fighting at his best today.

Not so sure about that. He became a star early (cover of Sports Illustrated before he had so much as beaten a contender, back when that meant something) in part because boxing was hot then.

And boxing was on TV every weekend, and he got wide early network exposure. That wouldn’t happen today.

Then HBO scooped him up and gave him the superstar build. That only happens today if he’s a flyweight, haha.

He’d be big. Not sure if he’d be as big.

I don't think he could or would approach his big paydays of the past.

Fairly simple as to why----Arum or DKP are not the big players. And the networks have cut back a ton on their boxing budgets. And the exclusive casino contracts are long gone and not coming back. Tyson benefitted from the publicity the sport had going for it decades ago. That has been replaced by sports like golf/auto racing/college football & so on. Plus, you have mma and pro wrestling. Too many other choices for powerbrokers/suits/and bean counters to look at than dealing with the Tyson out of the ring antics.

He'd still become extremely wealthy. At that time, they thought he would become the first billion dollar athlete. In 1988, Tyson made more money than Michael Jordan.

Earning huge money in 1988 would probably be better for Tyson than earning a slightly larger amount today, assuming he invested his money. I'm not sure that either incarnation of Tyson would do that, though.

Not as much as people might think, boxing is a fringe/niche sport now while back in the 80's it was mainstream.

Someone like Floyd who fights in a very boring, snoozefest manner can achieve paydays of $100 million, $200 million per fight but a Prime Tyson operating today cannot?

If he surrounded himself around smart business people, of course he could and way more money … As Mayweather has … Mayweather made North of 300 million for McGregor .. His team of businessmen, along with him, are absolute geniuses

I think Tyson was made for today's media, with his style he would transcend the sport as he did in the 80s. He wasn't just famous, he was idolised world wide in his heyday, he would be even bigger now. Tyson may not have been the best ever but his persona was one of the more interesting ones in boxing history. If Mayweather is able to generate the massive pay days he has, Tyson would surpass him easily, easily.

Tyson is still famous the world over and one of the most easily recognizable people on the planet anywhere he goes and that was based on what he did in the 80s.

To the general public, he'll always be that circa 1986 Mike Tyson. People still think of the guy who slaughtered Berbick in 2 rounds, even today.

Lol Joshua and Wilder with their KO records can still barely be known outside their countries. Lol, Wilder can't even fill out a stadium in Alabama.

Fighters like Tyson and Ali and even George Foreman to some extent have this charisma about their personalities which endear them to the public. Wilder and AJ aren't charismatic enough. Tyson was charismatic in his own way. One thing about Tyson is that he just said whatever it was that was on his mind and didn't care who it offended and I think people admire that.

People seemed to find Tyson interesting as well, that paradox of being an animal in the ring but had that soft spoken voice and lisp outside, in the earlier days anyway. He was an interesting character and as said, that fascination lasted decades. same goes for Foreman and ALi. those guys were uncompromising, they were real characters. there is literally nothing interesting about wilder and AJ, they are just modern fake celebs, one pretending to be real and outspoken when he is full of ****, the other pretending to be an icon when he has not proved it yet.
