I think Vitali Klitschko vs Hasim Rahman was the last one to be scheduled.

Yep not many can regularly crack that 500K barrier. Even when Tito at the height of his popularity and was heralded as a possible P4P number 1 fought Hopkins for the undisputed middleweight title I think that only did 480K buys, though I think 9/11 might of weakened the numbers for that one.

Maybe Wilder/Fury will be seen like RJJ/Ruiz which saw RJJ, another very low drawing fighter like Wilder, who was able to capture the fans imagination with an audacious but calculated jump up in weight. That fight did 620K which is what I think can be the the most this fight could do in the US considering how small draws both Wilder and Fury are. But it is more likely to do something like the RJJ/Toney PPV which only did 300K.

Only that you're seemingly resting your argument on that 1.2m figure and little else. That was a fight against an exciting Cuban KO merchant who has been active in the US boxing scene for years and probably brought in some interest himself. It may be an easier sell than a fight against a ring rusty European with a tendency to spoil contests. Converting 1 in 3 viewers into a 70$ purchase sounds like a tough task for the showtime marketing team...

I think they could get to 400k if the marketing goes well.

What are you smoking? Fury is seen as a joke in the UK and doesn’t attract the casuals. In the unlikely event this happens you won’t get 500k PPV in the UK

Ortiz isn't more known than Fury LOL. Nobody knows Ortiz, Fury is more known because he beat Klitschko and
he is considered as the lineal champion.

The fight with Ortiz didn't have anywhere near the hype around it and that was his breakthrough fight, he gained
more attention in the media after this fight.

A lot of people will look very stupid with their constant lowballing of the drawing potential from an American heavyweight champion in the United States.

If a non title fight like Whyte/parker can do 470K then I think Wilder/Fury can do a similar number. It being in the US will weaken the UK sales to some degree but not by as much as it would in the US if it was in the UK. UK fans are avid sports fans and are used to making an event of such big fights even if it is at 4am.

I'm not saying he's better known, I'm saying an easier sell, two different things. If I was cutting a promo I'd sooner have Ortiz's back catalog, if I were trying to push the fight in Florida I'd sooner push Ortiz, etc. Remember that a lot of the people that will need to buy this fight for it to be a success do not know what lineal champ means.

Finally, if a lot of people here will look stupid for underestimating Wilder's box office appeal, what does that say about the guys who have been managing his career as champ for 3 years now without ever generating big figures or revenue? They had all the data, so why didn't they rush him to PPV ASAP?

Thank you, I'll keep this quote and remind you of it next time you insist Whyte should fight Ortiz.

    Your words.. "Nobody knows Ortiz"

Exactly, pointless fight for Whyte, he'll get no credit for beating somebody "Nobody knows" and the fight is not a money maker.

    Cheers

It will do less than half of Hatton Mayweather.
You need to take a zero off those numbers.

Do you think Parker, Breazeale or Miller are more popular ? Nobody knows them, the only well known fighters are Wilder, Joshua and Fury.

Whyte has to fight somebody, it's not only about money lol, he can't fight Wilder, Joshua or Fury everytime.

Whyte has and will continue to take on good challenges.

Luis ortiz is irrelevant to the division at this stage.

He does still possess some danger but he is simply too old to have enough time left on his career to come back and go on a serious run. His career peaked against Jennings

Ortiz is all risk and no reward at this stage, if Whyte beats him great, he beat an old guy.

Better for Whyte too take on some young talent that is going to stick around and achieve things in the sport.

Reasonable responses. I believe it breaks 400k also, maybe by a lot. Deontay has been getting a lot of TMZ energy and buzz and with the 1.2 million people who watched the Ortiz fight they will want to see more of the great champion. Look at what happened in Belfast, Deontay was the talk of the town. Deontay is not only likeable but loveable. These people have low balled Deontay his whole career, why should these idiots stop now??? They know who they are, 99+% on this board was anti Deontay just a few years ago that went down to 95+% last year but right now that number is down to 70+% anti Deontay and in the end all will love Deontay just as I predicted many years ago on this board.
