how much more would calzaghe have to do to get the respect he deserves?

fight someone with a pulse, someone that his fans don't have to write essays about to convince us of their merit for starters. no fighter has fans that have to work soooooo hard to justify their legacy.

fight and beat ONE legit great fighter in their prime, not look like he's having a ****ing seizure everytime he throws a "combo", not struggle with a WAY past prime hopkins, not get knocked down and look like a jackass against the corpse of jones, not...aw **** it

did you see the same fight against jones i did, the same jones who was still good enough to pummel that hype job lacy. calzaghe danced round him and made him look rank slow. as for who he beat, he fought the best around at the time who could challenge for his belt. and hopkins was still rated high up in p4p so not that bad of a win really..

also joe c was no spring chicken himself in his late 30s so not as if they were old men compared to him..

Roy was an old 40 year old though in comparison to what he once was he might as well have been 50, he had not been half of what he was 5 years prior to fighting Joe. Joe knew this.

I don't mind Joe clowning Roy and cashing out with a fight against a legend, that is fine, he had a great career. But it needs to be called for what it was.. Too many Calzaghe supporters try to claim that it shows that Joe was always superior to Roy, and that is just not the case.

    A lot more than this:

Beat an old Eubank ---> 10+ years of fluff ----> beat (barely/disputably) an even older Hopkins ---->beat a washed up Roy Jones.

Here's his legacy if you include Lacy & Kessler:

Beat an old Eubank ---> 5+ years of fluff ----> beat a guy whose biggest win was against Robin Reid (**** it, choose any other of his opponents)----> beat a guy whose biggest win was against Anthony Mundine---->beat (barely/disputably) an even older Hopkins ---->beat a washed up Roy Jones.

    You're welcome.

The bouts that had to be made earlier were Calzaghe v Hopkins, and Calzaghe v Jones...it didn't matter if he won, lost, or drew with either...these two bouts a good few years earlier would have gotten Calzaghe a ton more respect. Why these bouts never happened earlier is irrelevant.

Although the guy was a champion for more than 10 years...it doesn't matter if your facing good or bad opposition...to have the motivation to hold onto a world title for that long, the guy deserves an extreme amount of respect.

im under no illusions that jones and calzaghe in their primes would of gone like that. but joe c had a great career and and gets little respect for his acheivements...

I think two wins would do him wonders. Come back, beat Dawson and Bute (catchweight if need be).

    Ain't going to happen though.

Most of these opinions coming from fans who said Lacy would spark him.

    Fair enough.:good

I respect Joe quite a bit, but sometimes have to dog him a little to combat the Calzaghe supporters degrading Jones. I do think he was a great fighter though.

yep, lacy didn't think it was worth going to england to take on joe c how wrong could he have been. he walked out of the ring after a man sized beating looking like a begginer. :thumbsup

I think those two wins would make him slightly more popular, and add to his legacy a bit. But if I'm honest...people will still just come back to the fact that he never fought a Prime Hopkins/Jones...
