how much more would calzaghe have to do to get the respect he deserves?

I wouldn't say that Johnson accomplshed more than Calzaghe. But he certainly put it all on the line, continues to do so, and that's is why he gets far more respect than Calzaghe.

    What does that even mean?

Johnson lost a lot of fights and, as a result of those losses, did not have the options that he would have done if he'd won. Nobody went to Germany to fight Ottke if they had the option. Likewise Branco in Italy, Woods in the UK. Jones didn't go to the UK to fight Jones or never considered going to Germany to fight DM. Because he was good enough that he didn't need to. If Calzaghe had lost to mediocre opponents, he would have been forced into taking on those sort of fights on the road. If Johnson had beaten Hopkins he never would have left the US. As an aside, I always find it an amusing stat that Glen Johnson has had a higher percentage of his career fights in his home state of Florida than Calzaghe did in his home country of Wales. Funny, considered one is considered a 'road warrior' and the other a 'stay in Wales hideaway'.

I would respect calzaghe if during the course of his career he learned how to throw a punch.

If I wanted to watch 30 minutes of slapping, i'd turn on reality tv.

johnson - c level fighter with 13 losses :nut

clinton woods - :nut woods is seriously toss and he spent his career at light heavy anyway, would just be another bum on joes resume

hopkins - it is fact that hopkins ducked calzaghe in his prime to go and pick up much smaller pay days against bums rather than face joe

tarver - c level fighter, got lucky fighting jones at the right time. got pummelled by hopkins, the fight before calzaghe beat hopkins in his own back yard with a corrupt ref.

ottke - totally ducked calzaghe and was wank anyway

trinidad - what planet are you on you thick ****, when was it ever viable for calzaghe to fight trinidad?

    kieth homes and joppy :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

all things considering, you have probably just made the worst post in esb history, step away from the keyboard before you embarass your country any further :nut :rofl

Not his career, Banger. But in terms of his seeming willingness to fight anyone, anytime. His resume is pretty damn good. Of course, you ask me whose career I'd rather have, It's Calzaghe's, warts and all.

Maybe respect wasn't the proper word, but since it was the operative word in this thread....

Johnson does get alot of respect for a guy who has as many losses as he has. And I think that is because he is a considered a warrior who puts it all on the line against anyone. People are willing to absorb losses from their fighters if they are willing to do that. (I.E. Cotto, Pacquiao). I don't like the idea that the "0" has become such a marketing ploy. It robs us of more fights than it presents.

And Cobbler is probably right about Johnson having no choice but to take on alot of these fights under the circumstances, but he didn't always have double digit losses.

i agree with what you are saying but in all honesty who did calzaghe really duck who he had a realistic chance of fighting? there maybe some truth in roy jones but other than that there isn't anyone he was scared to fight yet people seem to want to label him as a serial ducker.

Yeah. Guys can be a little extreme at times. I've honestly never seen a fighter who has divided opinions so much from one extreme to the other.

The ducking thing is a hard nut to crack, IMO. Again, I think there are lots and lots of reasons why fights don't get made. Among them, $$$, promoters, travel, weight, personal issues, injuries, etc. Who knows why certain fights didn't get made and others did.

Clearly he would have beaten anyone he could have faced so its not a problem his only meaningful fights in his entire career were against a middled aged Hopkins, Kessler, Lacy, and Eubanks.

He's a top ten ATG for sure!

I'm not saying he ducked anyone in particular. He just never fought anyone.

I respect Johnson far more than Joe. If fighters like Johnson got the respect they deserve guys like Joe wouldn't exist. He would have been forced out of his backyard into a real fight.

Calzaghe was 10x the fighter Johnson was but i do half think Johnson was 10x the person but as said that could be due to external circumstances for both. People seem to be unable to seperare skills from personality.

He's not criticized for saying he wants big money; everyone wants big money. He's criticized for saying he didn't want tough fights.
