how much more would calzaghe have to do to get the respect he deserves?

Clinton provided those quotes. After he's posted them several times in different threads, only to be ignored, I reposted them.

I am not saying JC alsways felt that way,but he certanly did at one point. As I said, I don't find it necessary to play shrink with Calzaghe. The fact he said he didn't want tough fights is enough for me to believe he didn't want tough fights.

Honestly, who can know if any of what you read is true without independent verification.
The same can be said about anything.

No one with half a brain would rate Lacy as a threat to anyone after being outclassed by Old Jones, Taylor, and getting a razor thin decisions against Calzaghe title challenger class opponents, Mendoza and Otis Griffin. With or without Joe it was only a matter of time before Lacy was exposed.

So we've established (if we assume that that quote that you have no actual source other than 'someone posted it on t'internet' for is true) that Calzaghe 'didn't want tough fights' in 1999. Although then we have to ask what he was defining as 'tough fights'.

Here is the Ring magazine rankings at the time:

    1. Frankie Liles
    2. Joe Calzaghe
    3. Richie Woodhall
    4. Sven Ottke
    5. Charles Brewer
    6. Robin Reid
    7. Thomas Tate.

So, what were the 'tough fights' that Calzaghe was avoiding. He had already fought Reid by the time he alledgedly said this. Liles was days away from a career ending defeat to Mitchell (who Calzaghe fought). He fought Woodhall and Brewer and Tate retired two weeks before he was due to fight Calzaghe. So apparantly the 'tough fights' didn't include all of the best fighters in his division at the time. Are you really saying that a young champion who is happy to fight all the best fighters in his division should be criticised for not wanting to go on an immediate suicide mission to the weight class above to fight one of the most dominant fighters ever seen?

    I agree, but then I don't post quotes that I can't verify...

You can choose not to believe that particular quote. Thats up to you. But some of the other quotes can't be denied.... the pattern is there. Its not much of a stretch when given the pattern.

i'm too tired to read up and see who is 'pro calzaghe', but whichever one of you is needs to be talking to me because is there is nothing foolproof when defending a fool..albeit a talented fool. and you won't win a debate against me.

The other quotes being along the lines of 'I'm happy to fight Roy Jones but I quite like to get paid quite a lot'.

I think you'll find if you look into it that that's not an uncommon attitude amongst professional boxers...

you tell me what bothers you about the criticism calzaghe gets - a guy was the legit 168 pound champ, and i'll tell you why he gets it

The fact that HoldMyBeer just sent me a PM asking 'are you pro-Calzaghe in that post' doesn't augur well for him being able to contribute anything worthwhile...

Nobody is stopping you posting your brilliant analysis and decisively cutting arguments. But I don't think anyone is going to beg you to give us the benefit of your great wisdom either...
