Think its important not to get pidgeon holed into just one or two reasons why his career panned out the way it did. This is real life and boxing as a buisiness is not always straight forward. There are many reasons why things do and dont happen .

Lol....probably. He actually knows his stuff from what I remember. And is usually mild mannered and a good poster.

Maybe holdmybeer can't actually hold his beer.

Fact is, Calzaghe is an example of a fighter who stayed in his division, cleaned it out several times and just never quite got the fame required until after Lacy to chase bigger money fights and force people to fight him.

We saw him attempt to get Hopkins, Ottke and Beyer in the ring, just as much as we saw him immediately say yes to Lacy when Lacy chased him and make the Kessler fight when both fighters were favored by many over him.

He beat Hopkins in between wins that make Hopkins career great ( in my view, Hopkins best 4 wins are Tito, Winky, Tarver, Pavlik) and did it in a way that even 80% of the boxing media and any poll of boxing fans shows 80% that he lost the fight, this is an American ATG, for him to be voted down on boxing media tells you something about the fight.

Discredit him all you want, say "Why didn't he face Jones Jr?" - because Jones Jr wouldn't fight him, why would you? He was an unknown European title holder at a time that European title holders had next to no publicity and struggled to get the big fights. Why didn't he fight Hopkins? He tried, the same can be said for Hopkins - why did he stay at 160lbs after beating Trinidad and gaining the WBA, IBF and WBC? Why didn't he go up the division to take on the unbeaten champ?

The only "shame" in Calzaghe's career is that a fight like Lacy didn't happen when he was 25, not 35.
