how much more would calzaghe have to do to get the respect he deserves?

and other people say crazy things like how Calzaghe would beat a prime RJJ and Hopkins.

    It goes both ways.

No way he beats a prime RJJ at all, but Prime Hopkins i think he would beat soundly, as soundly as prime RJJ would beat Calzaghe.

thats a really poor post, it would take me all day to explain to you how stupid it is but my time would be wasted because you blindly hate calzaghe and everytime someone explains to you, it goes in one ear and out of the other.

he was critizied by not fighting outside UK during most part of his career. Too bad the win over Hopkins and RJJ was won during the tail end of those two great fighters.

Maybe if he had a different manager his would had a better career but I can't say anything bad about his career/ he is definitely in my ATG list for boxers that UK has produced...

    :rofl

The list of more suitable opponents over the length of his career would be truly massive.

He barely beat at 40+ year old Hopkins? Clearly this thread is full of delusional assholes. Try breaking this thread up and starting some Tocker Pudwell and Jeff Lacy appreciation threads. If you can convince even one or two *******s how great those fighters are it will serve to increase the size of your circle jerk club by a couple of members.

And a Hopkins who went onto destroy pavlik couldnt beat a broken handed Calzaghe who was 36 himself and one fight away from retirement. Anyone can twist things to look how they want if they try hard enough. All of these fantasy match ups are pure assumption anyway, but they assumption for you aswell s the calzaghe fans. That seems to main difference to me. One set of people who admit its all speculation and one set who seem 100% adamant he would win/lose purely because they think it.

Tal.... I would say the best course would have been, after Eubank, or maybe even Reid, go his own way. Increase his exposure by getting a few fights outside of Europe, specifically Wales. It would have helped him shed the regional tag. He could have made himself a player on the world scene by by possibly moving up to lhw. But even if he stayed at smw, by getting his name out there as champ and even a potential opponent for guys like Jones or Hopkins, rather than an obscure regional champ, it could have increased his marketability and gotten him some of the opponents we would have liked to have seen.
To me, the key would have been doing it early, before he stagnated and before they decided to do what looked like milking the cow.

Yep sounds a good course, for me tho id have done it slightly different. His ego would have never allowed him to fight other peoples left overs but he should have ditched Warren and taken some of his fights in america for exposure. Still let it start as the same challengers but have the fight in america on america time to increase his rep. Also get a good promoter and turn up at Jones,Hopkins fights ect and call thm out.

Absolutley 100% right. Calzaghe beating Jones and then getting all excited about it is like digging up Marilyn Monroe, and saying to you buddies "Look who I pulled!!"

Calzaghe is like the Klitsch whatever the **** theyre called. Lack of depth in the division at the time.

Jones, Hopkins?? Old men. Kessler?? Never that good to begin with.

After 30 pages this is the correct answer. To say Joe deserves loads of "respect" for the body of his work is out of control. Joe made it to the top of the mountain at the end of his career and rather than go for the glory he went for the easiest paydays he could find and a few lines of coke. Boxing is hard and his career was long and I don't blame him for getting out before he started talking like the chef from the Muppets. Joe's career was much better at producing money for Joe than it was in producing all time glory. There really is no shame in it.

Who's leftover's where Mitchell, Jones, and Manfredo. I know there are fighters on Joe's resume he never stepped into the ring with until Ottke had beaten them. Do you even know wtf you are trying to say?
