how much more would calzaghe have to do to get the respect he deserves?

Cant of lacked that much to win WBO 21 defences, WBC WBA IBF & Ring SMW titles & Ring LHW title.
Why should The Champ take a fight if hes injured? Thats just silly

It does not matter who G.Johnson lost to at this point... He has improved greatly, and suggesting that a Dawson victory would be nothing for Calzaghe because Dawson struggled with Johnson who lost to Sheika who Calzaghe beat is a dumb excuse. That has proven to be irrelevant when two fighters step in the ring together.

If that was the case, then Roy should have been given the victory before he and Johnson fought because Hopkins already knocked Johnson out, and Roy already beat Hopkins.:yep

I am not saying Calzaghe would lose to Dawson, Or Johnson or anyone for that matter, but calling a victory over Roy a good win for Calzaghe, and downgrading a possible victory over Dawson due to him only beating guys that knocked Roy out 4 years prior to Calzaghe beating Roy does not make sense to me.

Cannot blame anyone for not giving into Calzaghe. He'd slap opponents to outpoint them, while the opponents were clearly hitting him with the harder shots. To his fortune though, the two opponents he faced who, in my book, are a level ahead of him in the HoF rankings, RJJ and Hopkins, were past it, their feet didn't allow them to... move Calzaghe around the ring and their stamina didn't allow them to stand and trade.

I have no doubt that a prime RJJ would have beat Calzaghe handidly. Prime Hopkins too. Don't get me wrong, Hopkins developed as a fighter with age, but he really needed that movement against Calzaghe.

i'm just sloshed enough to not care: he's an arrogant ***** who did just enough to not lose and retain the ability to claim he was the best. he wasn't anything particularly special. he's the guy in gym class who stays in the back during dodgeball, waits for everyone to eliminate each other and runs out at the end and takes out the last guy and says he's the best. no, you're the **** who hid in whales while everyone was doing your dirty work. **** off, i'm glad you're retired and you're quickly being forgotten. best 168 pounder ever on resume and longevity sure, but it's not like the talent pool for that division is spectacular. as with calzaghe's entire career, he wins by default

I think if he took on and beat Bute and Dawson, it would put to bed a few of the criticisms that have plagued his legacy.

It would show he wasn't afraid to risk his "0".

It would show he was willing to take on tough fighters in their primes.... even more impressive given his age and lay off.

It would show he doesn't avoid tough fights.

It should be enough to quiet most of the criticism he gets.

Nothing. He is getting more credit than he deserves for his **** poor resume. He is half a **** hair ahead of Danny Green and Green has fought almost his entire career hidden is Australia. I think Green would have stretched his ass if Slappy joe would have had the balls to face him.

thats bull****. joe was a skilled fighter even if he never truly tested himself. green has always been a contender but he never had the skills joe had.

EDIT : you say green hid in australia his whole career, which is true, but then you say "if joe had the balls to face him..".

NOW you know why green didn't get big names running to him and why calzaghe didn't either. you can't say that a fighter who spends his career fighting out of his hometown when the world stage is half a world away got dodged by anybody. it's the other way around.

Both of these fighters were prime and would have bent joe over.

Here's what he would have had to done: fought in the USA (not saying he SHOULD have done it, but it would have gained him US credibility) & fought bigger names in their prime: Bernard Hopkins, RJJ
