How much of a chance was Patterson given in Liston II?

Were there people who thought Patterson could fight a smart fight instead of coming right at Liston like he did the first time? Or were they mostly people who picked Patterson because he was a good guy and Liston was the bad convict?

Comments from Bummy Davis, Old Fogey and John Garfield would be highly appreciated.

I think it annoyed a lot of people as it was a mandatory rematch, that was not needed. The feeling was Patterson probably would last longer, but he was not going to win. And that is what happened... just!;)
