I don't think he was a fraud, he's a very talented guy but he did oversell so many of his fights. His cruiserweight career is really overrated since after winning the titles he almost immediately vacated them to move up to heavy and made promises he never delivered on...but fair play to him nonetheless, I think if any people had the chances he did to make money in the way he has I'm sure they would have done the same. He was certainly good at capturing the public's imagination even after they turned against him, like after Audley, then after Wlad before he fought Chisora. I think a lot of the American hate is jealousy. I find it so funny the way they all say 'OMG, like, such a butthurt Brit!' and then fight tooth and nail defending Deontay Wilder's ridiculous record.
He should have defeated another heavyweight contender. His claim would be stronger. Also, he could have been more active in the fight against Wlad. His effort was mediocre. Also in the Valuev fight. Now he is chasing 41 year old Vitali Klitschko.
Fantastic cruiserweight champion, what made me surprised is that he went up to heavyweight,ko`d a wbc rated17th heavyweight Bonin in 2 rds, then went back down to cruiserweight to ko Mormeck in his hometown in France.
Great fighter but not a great cruiserweight or heavyweight champion. He gets disrespect for his inactivity (fighting once, max twice, a year since around 2006) and not making the best possible fights. I give him props for facing Wlad and I think he did better against Wlad then any other fighter since Peter I. I think with time Haye-Klitschko will be more appreciated as good competition between 2 cagey heavies in their prime. While I think he was the best cruiser for a little while, I don't put too much stock in his cruiserweight reign. Frago was already 37 when Haye beat him (great fight) and Mormeck was past his best, though not yet shot. If Haye had gone on to defeat Cunningham and Wlodarcyzk and Adamek then he might have become the best cruiser of the decade, but it didn't happen. At heavy, Haye has some good wins against Ruiz, SNV, and Chisora...but ultimately his resume pales in comparison to Chambers or Adamek or Povetkin, although most consider Haye better. While I can appreciate that it's made him lots of money, as a fan I don't appreciate Haye's choice to make millions playing footsy with the K-Bros when the K-Bros outweigh him by 35 lbs and have mad reach over him. Haye should have faced the best fighters of his own size, like Povetkin and Adamek, and proven his mettle p4p.
He's a very talented guy. He just rubs some people the wrong way so they call him a fraud. He's still the clear #3 heavyweight in the world. The fact that people on this site actively crusade against the Vitali fight shows how delusional some of his haters can be.
a clear number 3 because why again? his ability to be inactive? or his ability to beat up a guy who lost 3 of his last 4 bouts? or his ability to beat up 40 year old shot zombies with 9 losses like John Ruiz? or ability to beat up complete and utter garbage audley harrison? yes, clearly he has warranted a spot as clearly the #3 heavyweight going. i wont mention his running like a ***** while losing 11 of 12 rounds in his shameful performance against Wlad. but yeah, he seems like # 3 material :good
Shannon Briggs if you have a sensible ref or compassionate corner. How many days was he in the hospital?
Fact is he is the #3 best heavyweight of this recent era so cant really say a fraud. #1 Vitali #2 Wlad #3 Haye everyone else
