How much of a home advantage do U.S fighters get?

Why when Pac's primary fight location is Vegas.

You do realize the US is bigger than Europe? And these same fighters with "hometown advantages" still have to travel across the country? So Froch being so close to his gym means nothing considering him and Andre Ward both had to fly 3000 miles to get to Atlantic City, NJ.

And Froch is an excuse maker lets not forget that. Just because he's a warrior and great for the sport doesn't make him any better than any other fighter when it comes to excuses.

Tim Bradley -- Pacquaio -- who has home advantage?

Adamek -- Chambers -- who has home advantage?

Williams -- Alvarez -- who has home advantage?

In each case, the American is fighting away in America. The moneyed fighter almost always has the advantage in the US.

If you got skills....it doesn't matter where you are...in the ring its you and the other fighter...nothing else should get in the way of that.....now if it comes down to a decision....welllllllllllll

The US isn't bigger than Europe, in fact Russia alone is bigger than the US, but anyway....

I fail to see the correlation between Froch's supposed excuses, and my point here.

    Absolutely a valid point.

Marquez vs Pac in Mexico city as opposed to Vegas. Damn right Pac would feel the home pressure.

Bute gets major props from me because he went into the lions den.

When was the last time an elite American fighter went into a lions den? Just once that I can think of, Kirkland, who was getting rocked and pulled through.

Of course, its not the fighters fault, its just that this is where the money is at, and I understand that; however, it wouldn't hurt the promoters to challenge their American fighters a bit and add that extra element.

One of the reasons I love soccer so much is because home and away makes a huge difference, and I love it when teams have to go to war on foreign soil.

Can you imagine the Mexicans always fighting in Mexico, how tough it would be to get a win? Kirkland had to give it everything that night.

The Japanese must also be a headache to beat, considering they also always fight at home.

I want to see fighters and promoters push for the foreign soil element. I love Vegas, but let's mix it up a bit.

Completely understand where the op is coming from.

But that's like saying "why bother visiting China, when New York has a Chinatown?"

You cannot compare a small community of ex-pats in the US, with the atmosphere you'd actually get in that country.

I agree with you, so wouldn't it be nice to occasionally test these skills in another country?

For big time fighters, timezones mean nothing. They have 3 months to prepare for a fight and have the camp infrastructure to handle the changes that need to be made if they, or their trainers feel, a timezone shift will be detremental. It isn't like these guys are holding full-time jobs doing something else, this is their job and they can adjust to make it work. This excuse might be more plausible if the changes were happening in the short term, i.e. Seth Mitchell, we have a big opening in the next Prizefighter but its happening this Wednesday. Or if the fighter has to work just to pay bills, like Manfredo or Mtagwa, so the adjustments can't be instantaneous.

As for Crossing continents, this isn't a skip and a hop for crossing the United States. To get from Oakland to Atlantic City, driving it would take fans 3 days(nothing but driving and just stopping to sleep/eat) just to get there, or to fly it would take at least an entire weekend which could be over a thousand bucks when its all said and done with. It would be quite frankly easier to travel from the UK to Germany than it would be to travel from Oakland to Atlantic City, just due to the distance. And crossing the ocean, would be the same problem that US fans would face crossing the country, the flight might be shorter but they are both essentially forced to travel in that manner.

    Thank you.

I'm not having a pop at the US for the sake of it here, or trying to knock it.

I'm just saying for the benefit of the sport, it would be better to redistribute the fights a little.

Test the fighters a bit more.

Yeah Mayweather vs Pacquiao would be great in a 3rd world country. Then after Floyd wins maybe they will storm the ring and lynch him.

Lacy vs Calzaghe in America? Lacy Ko 3

Exactly, fighting in the l.a. staples center filled with a bunch of Mexican Americans is not the same as actually leaving your country, staying in Mexico for a while and then entering a Mexican foreign arena filled up to 98% with Mexicans screaming at you.

Let me paint a picture of what homefield advantage does...

If Chavez Jr fought Andy lee in Ireland, Chavez loses, you can het on that.

If Andy lee fights Chavez Jr in Sinaloa Mexico, Andy would lose. Why? Homefield advantage would tip the scales.

The reason why I do like Vegas though is that it offers a somewhat neutral venue for two foreigners like lee and Chavez.
