How much of a hot take is it that Marciano wouldn't stop a prime Bonavena?

If you can go 25 competitive rounds with a young Joe Frazier and take the heat, so to speak, why couldn't you go 15 with Marciano?

    I think possibly could.
He almost got the 15 with Ali as well.
And Marciano went 15 with a clearly not prime Charles.

    So yes,why not?

Ringo would be a live dog. Stopped only once in sixty seven fights.

Good size for his era, a decent understanding of how to box when needed, a cast iron chin, fantastic conditioning, solid power. Only stopped by the consensus greatest heavyweight of all time in the final round.

Not a bad resume for sure.

Yes i could see Bonavena going the distance and you could arguably say Bonavena would be the best Heavyweight Marciano has ever fought who was in his prime.

What would make of Bonavena vs someone like Rex Layne?

    Yes nothing wrong with that.
Oscar had the misfortune, like a few contenders, to come along in that time.
Giving two great heavyweight s a fair tussle is something to be proud of .

Don’t see it. Ringo’s stamina always let him down against top competition and got him stopped against Ali, so I have a hard time seeing him last the distance with Marciano.

Do Ali and Marciano have a single thing in common in how they fight? It's like saying Foreman didn't have a good chin because Ali bounced him off the canvas.

Bonavena is too slow and lazy, Marciano just smothers his work and beats on him till a stoppage.

Yes. Ali and Marciano both had superior conditioning compared to their competition and were excellent finishers once they wore their opponent down, so they did have a few things in common.

Ali’s superior conditioning won him the fight against Bonavena, since as soon as Bonavena ran out of gas Ali moved in and finished him. Marciano with his superior conditioning would do the same to Bonavena.

I’m going to be the contrarian and say that left hook by Ali in the 15th would have ruined Ringo at any point in the fight. It was on the short list of the best punches Ali ever threw in his life.

But as to the question I think Bonavena could go the distance with Rocky. He might not be very pretty afterward though.

As the pope of the holy rockistas, this is a valid and normal take though i disagree with it
