How much of a hot take is it that Marciano wouldn't stop a prime Bonavena?

I think there are Welterweights that could box his punching under water ears off for 12 easy rounds.

You could start real small and simple. Actually watch a few fights on Youtube instead of shooting off stupid takes on the daily that no one else is on board with... because they're patently false.

I mean if you want to stick out like a sore thumb and take some weird demented pride in being grossly ignorant, be my guest. Just don't be surprised when no one respects you after takes like "Rocky Marciano was actually a skilled boxer". That's the kind of **** people are gonna still be laughing about in ten years time, if you're still around by some miracle.

James Toney, Joe Frazier, Angelo Dundee and Muhammad Ali would all disagree with this b-b-bull sheet ya don’t know anything if you can watch Goldman’s masterpiece and not see anything “skilled” going on there.

Being an effective fighter doesn't mean you're a skilled boxer. Your argument was that Marciano was far and away more skilled than Oscar Bonavena.

Do you not understand what the actual act of boxing looks like?

This is new  yes he was an unskilled and effective “fighter” but not a boxer? I’ll never get tired of this sort of BS Marciano was skilled end of stop being stupid and hiding behind nonsense.

Yeah, Rocky was "skilled" the way Bazooka Limon was skilled. Being an effective figher doesn't make you a boxer.

You have a poor grasp on the word I’m not being funny either, comes in lots of shapes. I thought getting into the ring having professional fights made you a boxer? Silly me.

With all due respect because you have been one of my favorite posters for a long time now.
Isn't being effective the most important thing? What is the value of 'skill' if it isn't effective? Granted, Marciano doesn't look pretty as he goes about what he does, but it worked.
I think, when you look at him and how he fought, that showcases a lot of skill. His trainer was obviously very skilled, his record proves that, and he recognized and understood his fighter's skills, strengths, and his limitations. He taught him accordingly. Marciano was clearly aware of the same things and he was willing to be taught, and to prepare himself to the best of his ability for every fight. His style wasn't artistic or pretty, but he was effective. In the era in which he fought, he established himself as the best and that is about all that you can do.
Boxing- and this is the beauty of it- allows for a lot wiggle room. You can be successful being a guy with no punch that is scary when it comes to being hit if you can do it well enough. You can be a heavyweight with short arms if you learn how to make it work for you. Those are skills and you apply them to become effective.

Yeah, I mean, there's obvious craft to Marciano's game. The way he'd take away the jab of fighters who were objectively more technical in a by-the-book sense shows craft. The punch selection he'd use and the way he'd mix in really short compact shots with clubbing blows shows craft. Like, that double left hook off the jab used to wipe out Matthews is pretty. Even in terms of aesthetics, there's more nuance in Marciano;'s game than there is Limon's...and I love watching Bazooka.

Now we're moving the goal post to something else entirely.... I didn't say there was no nuance to Marciano's game, or craft, I said he wasn't a skilled boxer. I stand by my statement that Bonavena showed more traditional boxing skills in his career than Marciano.

Then we don’t really disagree and are arguing on what the definition of “skill” is lol.

Its certainly possible he could ago the distance w Rocky or that Rocky catches him and stops him ... he did have a good twenty pounds on muscle on Rocky but Rocky was better, better conditioned and hit harder ... a rough fight for sure ..

With all due respect your takes are very superficial. Just because a fighters style doesn't look pretty or looks a little rough doesn't mean that they are devoid of skill. Fighters have different skillsets. Maybe take a closer look at Rocky's fights.

You wanna talk about superficial takes... How about you over there in the lounge, the well known collective butthole cesspool of the entire website. :risas3: Of course you're over there bleeting like you are on here about how Marciano is the most sublime technician heavyweight ever and would never lose a fight despite the reality of the situation.

Bu- bu- but Angelo Dundee and Ali said...! Yeah and Foreman is afraid of Quarry AND Frazier. Dundee also said Art Hafey was the best little man he had ever seen. It means less than nothing.

Make sure the door doesn't hit you int he ass on the way out back the Lounge.
