Framing this potential modern fight in a historical context. It appears that Fury is out and Wlad may be fighting Joshua next. Should Wlad win, how much of a legacy boost would this be considering his age ( 40 ) and Joshua's standing today?

Nothing is official yet, but there's lots of chatter about it happening. Wlad says he's going to fight in December. Joshua is TBA about the same time.

There's a chance Fury will be stripped and two belts will be on the line. Or perhaps they will fight for Joshua's IBF belt.

It would be a massive financial success.

Here's the ESB link for it

If Wlad beats Joshua it's a decent win. Joshua is a novice, but he's a contender, unbeaten. He's as big as Wlad and he can punch. So it would be an okay win.

Since when does a fighter who has been fighting professionally for 20 years still have his legacy in question?

It would depend on what Joshua goes on to do

There nothing questionable about Wlad's legacy.

The question is how much would beating Joshua, the 2012 Super heavyweight gold medalist, undefeated and current IBF champion enhance Wlad's legacy if he wins at age 40?!

According to most Joshua is the heir apparent among the current crop of heavyweights.

When that guys 'legacy' has been proven to be totally bogus. Just a big guy who had to create his own rules to beat ordinary smaller guys.
Thankfully boxing history isn't filled with too many Wladimir Klitschko's.

It's on the scene. From Klitschko's side Bernd Boente said they have agreed financial terms and are awaiting rulings from the sanctioning bodies. Looks like it has to be a unification fight if it is to happen at all.

If Wlad wins it does clearly add to his legacy but not much as he hasn't beaten the man that beat him previously like when other champions have regained their titles. How such a win will be judged will truly be determined by what Joshua goes onto do. If he becomes a top heavy and a champion again then it adds a lot to his legacy, much like Lewis win over Vitali added to Lewis' legacy but even more so.

I think it would be a significant boost taking into account Wlad's age. If Joshua goes on to do great things then it could potentially be huge.

At this point Wladimir has nothing left to prove and legacy wise everything to gain.

If he goes on a five fight tear, regaining the belts and making the haters cry *coughdinocough* I will LOL.

Oh please, you don even know what you are talking about. Wlad has beaten plenty of big men. The smaller opponents he defeated would be considered big men decades ago.

Hard to say. We really have no clue how good Joshua is. He could retire as just a blip on the all time heavyweight radar.
