right i have just had a opperation on my sinisus and my surgeon said i can not have no contact for around 8 months. i'm going back to training after the new year (boxing) and i can't imagine going to training without sparring i can see me either giving up because thats where the buzz is if you ask me its going to be hard enough not fighting. anyway i was wounder the head guards with the nose bar how much do they actually protect your nose are we talking not even a nock or half contact although this sound abit stupid but the bar actually goes under the nose so i was thinking it would take a very awkward angle to catch the nose??

The head guard with steel nose guard that fighters adopt in sparring a few weeks before their big fight does give them some measure of protection. But sparring partners don't like it. It hurts their hands.

The down side for the fighter wearing the steel cage, it cuts down his visibility.

Not enough for you to be sparring in that condition & under those doctor's orders. The shock is still there, the bar can still be pressed back.

8 months isn't that long. Follow your doctor's advice or you could end up regretting it for a very long time compared to the 8 months.
