Just re-watched parts of that hugfest from `93 and caught the dying seconds, Benn was in bad trouble, could Galvano have stopped Benn if there were several more seconds to go in that fight?
Maybe.Galvano was a big guy a boiled down LH .Benn punches had less.effect at super middleweight .should of stayed at middle was devastating there.
Benn was hurt, and staggered into the corner after the punch. However, fighters get hurt in fights and often recover. When it happens just before the final bell it can get overblown, with people assuming that it would have led to a stoppage. When you consider the two fighters in question it's unlikely that Benn was "saved by the bell". Benn was a survivor. He was frequently stunned, hurt and staggered in fights. Logan had him in bad trouble, Gimenez had him hurt several times, Barkley stunned him, even Danny Perez with 5 stoppage wins had him staggering. That's without even considering what he went through against McClellan. Benn was only ever stopped though when he gassed, was beaten down, or injured. No-one in a long stretch at world level hurt him with one punch out of nowhere and finished him. Galvano was a poor finisher (7 KOs in 40 fights), and never stopped anyone even close to fringe world level. If he stopped Benn out of the blue, it would be him doing something he never did before, against someone who never had that done to him. Yes, it's theoretically possible if it lands a bit earlier in the round that Galvano opens up with a ruthless salvo of pinpoint power-punches, Benn freezes like a rabbit caught in the headlights, and the Dark Destroyer is left in a crumpled heap on the canvas. The far more likely scenario is that Benn weathers the storm like he did a lot of times in his career, clears his head before a bemused Galvano realises he's actually hurt someone, and 25+ years later on hardly anyone remembers it happened.
