I agree with what you're saying but really they're all plastic belts. WHo is a real champ? Was Joe a real champ when he won the vacated WBO? Is Hopkins a real champ despite not defending his Ring belt at 175lbs since he got it? Juan Diaz has 3 pieces of the pie yet Casamayor is regarded as the man. It's just a circus show now and Mundine isn't the only clown in the production, when you think about it Joe Calzaghe is the only true champion in the sport at the moment.

As for getting Joe down here that just won't happen anymore. $5 mil would be the most he could get down here I would think which isn't half what he's gonna make against Hopkins. He's too big for Australia now.

 

There is no diff between Bute's belt and the one Mundine will be sole owner of once Joe vacates it. Joe will have disgarded them both. Choc did have to fight the number 3 ranked contender (Soliman) for it after the number 2 (Lacy) rejected a fight because of injury.
Belts have been vacated all throughout history, it's a part of the sport.

 

If Calzaghe goes to 175 for good then Mundine in effect does have to fight for the sole WBA belt.

 

Bute fought for a belt Joe threw in the bin. Mundine fought for a belt that Kessler wouldn't/couldn't defend.

 

No he doesn't, he already has it. It's not an interim belt.

 

Mundine's status is very comparable to Bute's, that along with the way they gained their belts. Only difference is that Bute holds the official IBF belt, but they both fought other contenders, and both Berrio, and Soliman are probably similar in ability, though Soliman's stocks would have been higher.

Mundine went through a tougher path to get his belt (if you count the eliminator he won against Green) than Bute Imo, that counts for something seeing as though they both won their titles under similar circumstances.

 

Still, he is right when saying that when Calzaghe vacates, Mundine doesn't have to fight for the title, it will automatically become his.

 

Well with the division the way it is I would think its only a matter of time before Mundine has to defend his title against a legit contender. With Bute and Kessler in the frame, along with Miranda, Green, Inkin and Froch asking questions its gonna be hard to avoid the real fights.

 

I and 90% of this little Aussie board agree with you, you're probably not gonna get what your fishing for here. You'll have better luck with Hopkins bashing on the main board.

 

Yes but when JC won the WBO title he was regarded as no4 at 168, and so was his belt. Mundine is currently no 3 and has a belt. So Mundine's Regular title is more valid than JC's belt at the time.
