How much weaker would a UFC 8-man HW tournament be?

    Who would fill those last two slots, and would this be weaker than the Strikeforce equivalent? If so, how much weaker?

    I look at it like this, Nelson is probably 4th, 5th or 6th best hw in the UFC (behind Cain, JDS and Carwin, on par with Brock & Frank), and I think Arlovski is effectively the 8th seed in the Strikeforce tourney, considering he has been KO'd by Rogers... and Arlovski knocked out Nelson.

    yeah, I would rather just see JDS vs Velasquez. The winner of that defend thier title against whoever proves themselves the most in the meantime and go from their.

    This tourney is the best thing for strikeforce, I dont think it is a good idea for the ufc to follow suite in the Hw division.

    The ufc could however create a tournament at welterweight while Gsp prepares to fight Silva. It might stir up something in that weightclass.

    Or they could have a geneticist convention to create a fighter who can dethrone Shogun Rua:D

    it would be weaker. the ufc argument is that their prospects are better at this stage - JDS and Cain.

    Add Crocop and Nogueira and there you go. Everyone on that list can go toe to toe with Strikefarce's heavyweight "division". It only counts as an actual division if they fight each other. I hope Strikeforce pulls it off because I want to see the best fight the best.

    Arlovski also got a gift standup when Nelson was in side control and working for a kimura submission for goodness sakes. That was one of the worst BS standups of all time. Nelson was tooling him on the ground.

    I respectfully disagree with this sentiment unless you're talking about Strikeforce in which case you're right.

    Just FYI - the UFC has already been having a tournament over the past few years because they make their top fighters fight each other. They just aren't trying to sell another bull**** Fedor fight that no one wants to see by selling it as part of a "tournament".

    CroCop and Nogueira are shot. Simple as that. Let it go. They are the MMA equivalent of Roy Jones Jr. As soon as a fly lands on their chins, it's over. The Strikeforce 8 are stronger, undoubtedly. Fedor and Overeem are both better than anyone on the UFC roster, maybe Barnett too, though I am a fan of JDS.

    Hopefully dana will pick up the winner which will be overeem then he can go win the UFC belt too and then nobody will be able to talk **** anymore
