Ok so long story short some food out here in Mexico completely messed up my stomach. So bad that the doctor said it could’ve been permanently damaged if I threw up once. Anyway, he said that I need to take it easy for a few weeks. I’m in Mexico for 3 more weeks and was planning to box out here, but looks like imma have to wait till I get back home. How much will 3 weeks have an effect? It’ll be my first break in a really long time.

Hey don't worry about a 3 week break!
Naturally when you stop the intense training, sparring etc. you will get a bit of a withdrawal effect but its really just a mental thing.
Of course you want to try and keep as active as you can, even if its just shadow boxing a bit, bodyweight exercises, going for walk and light running, just take it easy.

Theres nothing you can do about it, you didn't plan for this to happen, but it happened.
Enjoy the break and reinforce your goals and what you want out of boxing when you go back, then you will have something to look forward to.

Sometimes you can pick up an injury or illness and its really frustrating but a few weeks or even months in the grand scheme of things is nothing.
And since you have been training hard, when you do go back to the gym it will be like second nature to you.

You have a really strange way of wanting to quantify everything which can't be quantified.

You have some kind of illness at the moment that none of us have a clue about. How could any of us possibly know how long it'll take for you to recover and get back to training fully?

Enjoy your time away and start training whenever you can. Stop asking silly questions about how long with this or that take, it's a waste of your time.

I think you misunderstood my question. I’m not asking how much time I need to recover from my current illness. I’m asking how much 3 weeks off will affect my boxing. As we all know boxing is ridiculously exhausting and I’m just wondering if I’ll feel completely out of it when I start training again. I’ve never had a break this long but I’d imagine it being a huge pain to get back into fighting shape.

What's in your muscle memory will be just fine. Conditioning shouldn't drop hard either, should bounce back after a week or so.

Just case study a lot. Think, visualize, contemplate.

I didn't misunderstand at all. I'm saying that you ask too many of these "How long with this take?" kind of questions which nobody can answer.

How could anyone here possibly know how you'll be affected by 3 weeks off? You may get back to about the same kind of level where you were in a week or two or it may take months, it's impossible to say.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but these questions you keep asking are a waste of time. It's as simple as train and eat correctly, get enough sleep and see how you go. Attempting to put timelines on things makes no sense and doesn't work in the long run anyway. Basically, just get on with it.

Yea you’re right. I mainly just ask a lot on this sub because I like getting personal answers from different people.

Mexican food hit you with a left hook to the liver.

If you’ve been working out at a good pace, three weeks off will be refreshing. You’ll be sore after your first couple workouts back but it will be a ‘good’ sore, kind of remind you what kind of work you’re putting in.

Within a week you’ll feel like your own self. But three weeks away from sparring might put a little rust on your timing the first couple of sessions back.

Advice: Don’t try to make it up in one day or even a week. Just get back to your routine, don’t say ‘I’ll do extra every day to make up for lost time.’ Your body will take care of the rest.

And I’m not a doctor, but I’d suggest eating ‘safe’ foods, stuff that’s easy to digest, for a while. Especially lots of fruits and veggies.

3 weeks? I went from welter to light heavy in 3 weeks.

    Just ask Maidana.

It all deppends how badly you got ill for example strenght generally stays 4weeks without training with stamina you start slowly loosing it after week but you go back fast also. You should be back to same place in 3weeks if illnes isnt bad

Life and Exercise/Sport are the most brutal reality checks you will ever get. You can work your ass off for years only to have it snatched away in a blink of an eye.

    Injuries are a mother ****er.

Maintain while on layoff. There will be less work needed to get back to where you left off.
    Boxing is a lifestyle.
