Shouldnt affect him at all imo. Jones has fought enough southpaws, 5 in a row if im not mistaken, but none where as good as Joe. Having said that ive watched every Calzaghe fight since he beat Eubank and ive been worried about him in a couple of the fights, because he does look as though he makes tons of mistakes yet nobody has been able to cqapitalise on them. I must say i havent been too bothered about this fight but last night i watched the weigh in and ive become really intrigued for this fight. Its actuyally got me pumped.
I think Jones right hand could play a major part in tonights fight. If Jones can slow Calzaghe's pace down i think he could land the right hand at will, remember how Robin Reid was landing his right hand on Joe, and Jones IS the puncher in this fight. As i said if Jones can drop Joes pace, he can start to land his combinations and lead right hands, because we have to remember Calzaghe is an old man aswell, he has slipped over the last couple of fights.
just seen this thread...after i spent a few minutes posting the very same question in a thread...when you see the bother tarver gave jones it makes yo think about the southpaw issue.
It won't at all. Jones has fought PLENTY of southpaws so he'll be comfortable. Prime Tarver from 2003 presents more problems for Jones with his southpaw stance than Joe does IMO
For sure, he his alot more tricky to figure out than joe i think it will be more of joe trying to figure roy's style out, because he can be very sneaky
Thats exactly what im thinking. I think alot of people are underestimating Jones jr too much. I never thought id ever hear myself going against him in my lifetime. Jones has alot of pluses, like the lead right hand and his left hook that Calzaghe has shown succeptability too. Im still going for Calzaghe UD but im not as sure as i was 4wk ago.
yes he got alot of bother from tarver but tarvers whole gameplan is different to joe c, tarver is more cautious fighter for sure
yes buddy, im in the same boat its crazy :huh i am thinking about going to the bookies and putting money on roy to egt the ud now lol
Exactly, and to be honest I don't think Calzahge can out think Jones. Calzahge is not exactly known as a smart fighter, just an aggressive one. I'm not saying he's stupid in the ring but he's no genius either.
It wasn't just that Tarver was cautious. It was mainly him being tall, rangy, and a big puncher. All things Calzahge doesn't have.
Tarvers Height and reach gave RJJ more problems than his stance, but RJJ has stated that he does not like to fight south paws before his fight with Lou De Valle. It was also because De Valle was a former sparring partner. That was the fight RJJ suffered his first real knock down.
