    Let someone hit you with a cast on their hand and see if you feel any worse than without the cast.

    Force = Mass * Acceleration.

    The reason why you hit much harder with a pair of brass knuckles on isn't because the brass knuckles are much harder than your knuckles. You'd get the same result by holding a roll of nickles in your fist.

    The reason why you hit harder is because of the added weight.

    Now people will automatically assume that the additional weight could not be enough to increase punching power. 'How when the body is much heavier?' This is flawed thinking in physics terms. Why? Because the fist and the body are not force in a punch. The fist is the projectile (weight) and the body is the accelerator. Together they make force but the body mass only helps this in limited ways.

    Now, it is more complicated than that. The body CAN be a bigger asset to the projectile but ONLY if the boxer knows how to extend the punch as he steps into it. Few punchers know how to do this. Margarito doesn't do this.

    Logically it is safe to conclude Margarito gained an advantage by having an ounce of plastered gauze in his hand wraps. Fists of a grown man only weigh a few ounces. Keep that in mind.

    Brass knuckles actually do more damage because they decrease the surface area of the impact.

    Also, 8oz gloves, wraps weighing however much they weigh, and you have no idea how much the pads weighed.

    When you talk about mass here, do you refer only to the mass of the fist or the mass of the whole body?

    Depends on who is wearing them. Still, the added weight to the projectile is a far bigger influence on overall force.

    Tape and a roll of surgical gauze alone is probably another 5 ounces.

    The point being even if we are talking a 10% increase in punching power (2 ounces of plaster vs 18 ounces of hand/gauze/tape/glove), it IS significant enough to warrant attention. Especially from a volume puncher.

    Mass of the fist yes.

    If you extend the elbow completely while stepping to the punch, the body becomes more additive to the mass of the fist. This increases punching power dramatically.

    yep, you're right, guess we should just make loaded wraps legal since they obviously are not dangerous

    I agree with the first statement since pressure is inversely proportional with the area.

    But i'm going to ask you the same question I asked ambition def, is it the mass of the fist or the mass of the whole body?
