Usually the A side gets the benefit of the doubt.
By A side i mean the one the boxing establishment "wants to win" so the fighter with more money making potential in the future.

Was lomachenko the A side vs Salido?
    Toney vs Griffin?

    These arent high profile fights.
    Anyone got any good examples?

Off the top of my head..maybe Ali-Spinks 1? Ali was certainly the "A" star here and there was a lot of thinking that this could be his last fight. I'm sure lots of folks wanted him to go out on top. Anyway, he lost a close decision, I think it was a split decision. Shouldn't have been that close as he was soundly outhustled and outfought by the novice Spinks.

Well if Spinks won clearly it doesnt really count. Im asking about the A side NOT getting the benefit of the doubt, which i cant really recall happening.

Whitaker Ramirez for example was an outright robbery and tbh Ramirez wasnt really much of a star.

Oscar Mosley 2 maybe? Still reeked of corruption, just happened to be against the star who was about to start his own promotion

ODLH won a few close ones but also lost a few close ones.

Definitely A side in all his fights.

Erik Morales - coming off a win over Manny Pac loses a decision to Zahir Raheem

Alexis Arguello - jr. lightweight champ loses a 10 round non-title to Vilomar Fernandez

Bennie Briscoe - on an 11 bout winning streak nearing a title shot with Carlos Monzon when he unexpectedly loses a 10 rounder to club-fighter Luis Vinales, before setting things right in an immediate rematch. And getting the title shot after doing so.

Holmes vs Michael Spinks but for a different reason.
A close fight where the champ usually would've been given
the benefit of the doubt and the win.
But the caveat was the establishment did not want Holmes
    to break Marciano's record.

    Hagler-Leonard. (Although, I suppose that is a fight with 2 A-sides)

During the 90s the "house" fighters at the Forum often lost disputed decisions to visiting fighters.

Jermell Charlo may have been a respective A side (although by no means a star) so i'll take it.

But Tito vs Oscar? Oscar may have been the A side on paper but that one Judge scoring the 12th for Oscar indicates some corrupt shenanigans still.
Im looking for examples were justice was done and boxing proves that an underdog can get a close call against a star.

Oscar definitely stands out here, even thought he got a few gifts himself. Others:

    Henry Cooper (vs Joe Bugner)
    George Foreman (vs Shannon Briggs)
Evander Holyfield (vs Michael Moorer) - very controversial scoring in the knockdown round.

I don't think Toney/Griffin is a good example because to this day there's a very good argument that Toney won both fights (I think he did). Same with Loma/Salido, Loma was the A-side but a lot of people thought he won.

A good example would be Zab losing very close to Baldomir, on the eve of having a mega fight with Floyd (and then that fight actually still happening before Floyd/Baldomir).

Difference from the above being, no one thought Zab won, no controversy though close
