Curious to know how much time you guys invest into consuming boxing media. Do you watch lots of bouts frequently? Do you watch one bout a day or every few days, or do you binge watch them? Do you use other boxing media alot, such as books? Magazines? Do you actively analyse bouts or give them the 'once over'?
I watch "Rocky Marciano was a Savage" every day right after praying to my Marciano Altar But in all seriousness I rewatch alot of Reznick and BoxingLegendsTV vids every day, I just enjoy the editing and music too much. I rewatch quick fights alot (ex. Hagler vs Hearns, Layne vs Satterfield, Firpo vs Dempsey, etc). The only long fight I rewatch pretty regularly is Marciano vs Walcott 1 Highlight videos do wonders for time management
I can’t wait for this answer lol. I certainly hope most of us watch boxing.... Almost daily for me and I watch 10-20 fights a week on average. I love scoring fights and feel I have gotten better at it (maybe others disagree lol) both in understanding the nuances and what is effective. I hate punch stats! There is a jab and a power punch and they all tabulate = punches landed. So a quick flurry of 5 pitter patter punches is greater than 2 powerful crosses because 5 is greater than 2 lol. Yes I also read nearly everything I can get my hands on.
My numbers are probably pretty sad (depending on whom you ask) but pretty good (depending on whom you ask). I’d say I’m usually always reading a book and so I spend time to and from work (I ride the metro - LA traffic SUCKS) reading a book so perhaps an hour and a half a day. As far as watching well I watch all fights on TV be it ESPN, Showtime, Fox, DAZN I watch everything I can unless I’m out and can’t watch. Old fights I’d probably say I watch around 6 hours a week so between 6-10 fights unless I’m watching a lot of quick bouts. I get home by 6 and Fridays I’m home by 2 or 3 and have weekends off so I usually squeeze an hour, sometimes two into my days. The weekend I usually satisfy myself with live sports and live boxing so don’t really pop in old fights over the weekend maybe a few on a Sunday when it’s not NFL season. I read the odd article at work and interact on places like here.
I invest a decent amount of time but it varies depending on what's going on in my work and personal lives. Watch multiple fights a week, watch clips from some of my favorite YouTube boxing commentators almost every day, and I've been spending a lot of time over the past half year or so researching and reading old newspaper articles on boxing. I also have a decent-sized collection of old boxing magazines (a few hundred) and I'll go through phases when I spend a lot of time reading them. I attend a few live shows a year. I don't spend much time watching highlight montages or rewatching the same fight more than 2-3 times.
I actually think highlight videos are one of the worst things to happen to young fans of classic boxing though...
I don't have cable, so I hardly ever see boxing live. I watch a lot of fights on youtube, mostly 70s-80s stuff I missed the first time around.
Why so? I do agree that watching full bouts is a much, much better way to educate yourself on a fighter and judge their skills, but highlights have introduced me to boxers I may otherwise not of heard of or underestimated.
I go to fights quite often. Maybe 8-12 times a year. Most fights in the LA area and usually at least two to three between Vegas and NYC. Some smaller shows too which are often a lot of fun.
