How often should I do punching/punching the heavy bag starting out? I did a couple rounds on my new heavybag last night, I also did a couple rounds on them this morning, I felt a lot more sorer and fatigued this morning, throwing hooks were tough, but throwing jabs and rights weren't as bad though the soreness was there. I was just wondering how often I should do punching? I'll try to do it everyday most likely, I'll be doing shadowboxing this week until Friday because I can't take my freestanding heavybag to college with me. By the way I'm using 16 oz. Everlast Training gloves.

If you are just starting out with boxing, I recommend NOT using the heavy bag unless there is a coach watching you. It's a sure way to develop bad habits in punching technique.

I used to use it just about every day, but not too much in the beginning. Mix it in with other exercises. Soon, you'll be able to go many rounds!

I'm self training myself for now since I have no gyms in my area for boxing, but I'm watching videos and reading here for how to properly do things, and I'll make a video soon so you can critique my technique.
So what should I do with no coach here?

need to be careful using the heavy bag at the start, it puts a lot of pressure on your joints and ligaments, particularly if your technique isn't right. Id stick to every other day at the start, with a focus on getting your punching mechanics right and going easy on the power.

Hit it properly or with an instructor, but other then that every day.
