I think world champions should be forced to defend their belt 3 times a year.

So the first week of the year the Heavyweight champions defend their belts, followed by the cruisers the next week, all the way to the straws on the 17th week, then straight back to the Heavyweights.

That 3 times would be 51 weeks so they can have a week off a Xmas.

4 times per year. more if they're taking on bums

Wilder could be fighting 8 times per year with his level of opposition

depends on how much punishment they take in a fight.

It would be nice if some top fighters were more active but it's hard to criticize someone for not stepping in the ring if they're legit hurt.

Buuuuut -- if they're healthy? 3/year sounds good.

    This is the exception.

Also outliers like Floyd, Vitali, Manny and fighters of their ilk don't HAVE to fight three/yr it'd just be night.

It was tragedy seeing AB fight twice in 14 months, PEDerson fight whenever the fukk he wants to, some of those euro only beltholders are disgust

Barring any injuries, a top-level boxer should fight 4 times a year.

A prospect should be out there every month while they're facing journeymen.

Are you guys high?!!! Imho a top level fighter should fight no more than 3 times a year. A title holder should fight twice a year. One voluntary and one mandatory.

    Title holders should fight 2x.

    High level contenders 3x.

    Bum crushers 4x to 8x a year.

I think fight more than once every 2 months isn't the best idea. You should have some time to recover. Perhaps it matters how many rounds you are doing as well. 12 rounds against a world champion is more taxing than wilder KOing 4 buffet boys in 1 round each.

Yes 3 times per year. If he has to mix in 2 times per year now an then that's fine. But when they start doing that once a year sh!t then gofukyoselv and find another line of work. Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia both best get their careers in order are start fighting man. Boxing is a what have you done for me lately sport.

the champions will become more recognized if they defend their belts from their mandatories 3x a year and twice a year if against another belt holder. this would force unifications and recognized lineal champions.

I agree with this. It really depends on how much damage a fighter takes and what their style is. Provodnikov, for example, shouldn't be fighting more than 3 times a year unless he gets an early KO. Other fighters like Mayweather are fine fighting 6 times a year because they never mix it up.

But, in general, 3 to 4 times a year, assuming they haven't taken too much punishment.

4-6 once they are established. 10 times a year the first year or two when they are fighting bums to make a name for themselves. If you are fighting overmatched guys and taking them out in a round or two you can fight two dozen times a year and not take much damage.
