    Obviously football is number 1

    Then I'd say rugby

    Cricket

    Golf

Then I'd say we level peg with formula one.

(i don't class darts as a proper sport)

    Thoughts?

    If only...

Brits can name many Olympians, making the likes of Cycling, Athletics and Rowing up there too.

After that, then you can place boxing.

horse racing is the 2nd most popular sport in Britain, in terms of attendance anyway, which seems as fair a measure as any.

The examples you mention may help pad out the Sunday evening sports bit, attached to the news, because there was no Football on that day. But the last time I can really remember Boxing being headline news was Haye's and Chisora's brawl. Prior to that it was Haye's toe, and last time there was any good news was Haye/Valuev.

On the other hand Saints Hoy, Wiggins, Ennis, Farah et al seem to get a feature at least once a month...

A big fight in this country can sell 20,000 tickets in a large arena or even more than that in a football stadium. Participants can share purses of 7 figures (or more) and if on terrestrial television it can dominate the ratings wars at that particular time of the day. Also it can made headlines front or back pages. How many sports can do that?

Unfortunately, the TV networks don't see that and therefore its neglected and its becoming a niche sport with an occasional break out event.

    People underrate boxing.

Its still very popular, it can still stop the nation.

    Haye vs Chisora

    Hatton's comeback!

All had a profound affect and following.

Not many sports could survive so long, when all the BIG fights are Pay Per View sporting events. Do you really think people would pay to watch a Tennis Match or a Rugby and Golf Match..? accept for the hardcore fans.

Boxing gets its hardcore fans buying fights, and even more casual fans..? Because it is a national past time sport, a cultural part of society in allot of cities.

The Bottom line is, Boxing can still in my opinion! Even rise above Football in share public interest, every few years fights come along that have this profound emotional affect.

You can't really compare other sports to boxing, because it has so many layers to it.

Small Hall shows, British, Commonwealth, European, and Elite Level!

All these layers have different levels of interest, and they all mould together.

Boxing has always had the characteristics of being a niche sports with break out events! what's new..? what has change..? people nbed to ****ing sort themselves out and shut the **** up. Boxing is all about building towards a mountain top, which in affect..? will be the break out event! every fighter works in this fashion.

Its not football, Golf or Rugby! and the dynamics of the game are different.

Its a complete and utter ****ing myth that boxing is dying, a complete and utter myth! and people need to stop repeating this gay ass statement! Boxing may have changed! with it not being on terrestrial TV as much! But check the stats, check the number of boxing events that took place last year! Its not dying, never was!

Note: **** thread, get over it!

Football, cricket, rugby, tennis, snooker, golf, Formula 1, Olympics (every 4 years) are all probably more popular than boxing.

Yeah but these get advertised and people who aren't even boxing fans get into it.

There's not many who watch boxing regularly. Not many people would even be able to name many current champions past the Klitschkos and that's only because of Haye.
