In Poland he's completely unknown except for big boxing fans. All the names you mentioned including K-bros are thousands times more popular.

Those are boxing fans. Of course he's going to garner that much attention from them. The threadstarter is asking about casuals. Your old lady only knows about Mayweather because of you. If she spotted Floyd in Tescos tomorrow, she'd barely even recognize him. She'd probably walk straight pass, and even nudge the tosser out of the way to get to the box of Coco Pops for her favourite son :good

Floyd mayweather is pretty popular in the UK, people who don't even follow boxing have heard of him since the ricky hatton fight.

At peacocks gym half the people there weren't even boxing fans, but they came to see him.:deal By boxing fan I mean they don't even know who john murrey, Smith, Cleverly is but they know floyd mayweather.

But he ain't nowhere as big as beckham, messi, jordon, e.t.c

    Oh dear :patsch

A room full of Hatton fans in his hometown chanting negatives towords Mayweather who would have guessed it

Also the 'who are ya' chants are comman place amongst british sports fans especially during football games where you can hear them chanting similar phrases at opposition fans, players, managers etc. it doesn't mean they literally have no idea who they are though.

As a sports figure i'd say Floyd is more well known in the UK then Pacquiao easily, the way he can pack out a gym for a sparring session...the way Sky Sports follow him around endlessly and I know plenty of non-boxing people who know who Mayweather is, he's been 'known' fairly well amongst even casual sports observers since his fight with DLH.

He's not in the same league as the other guys you listed, but more well known that the Klitschkos in England I think.

My mum's heard of him, but far more familiar with Audley Harrison for example (before Strictly).

Blade, you're a raging Floyd fan that refuses to remain rational when talking about him, so of course you're going to say he's a popular star here.

But the fact is, this is the year 2011, where boxing sits way below football, rugby, cricket, tennis, formula 1, etc. A foreign boxer - regardless of how big he is in his sport - does not garner much attention from your average joe in the UK. It doesn't matter if you're Pacquiao, Mayweather, Hopkins, Martinez, or whoever. If you're not British, you won't be exposed here unless you're fighting a British fighter.
