Yes, he's more well known than Pacquiao, but that isn't saying much. When talking about him packing out venues, you're talking about boxing venues where boxing fans go. When talking about TV shows covering him, you're talking about boxing shows where it's their job to cover him.

But tell me, when he's not fighting a British fighter, when has he ever made the BBC Six O'Clock news? When has he ever been invited to the Jonathan Ross show? When you're covered by outlets like these - like Hatton, Calzaghe, Beckham, Khan, Hamilton, Woods, etc, have - it's then that you know you're a cross-over star in a country.

This isn't an attempt to knock Mayweather. Or a denial or anything. It's just facts. Like many foreign superstar boxers, it's hard to become a houseold name here. ****, even Oscar De La Hoya isn't known by your average UK person. And people here wanna' try and claim Floyd is? Come on, man.

More people know who Audley Harrison is than Floyd Mayweather in the UK (serious).

Are you from the UK? I would guess you're not considering what you wrote in one of your previous posts, but regardless we're not talking about 'well known' as in a David Cameron/Lewis Hamilton well known category we're talking about well known (well atleast I am) in a relative sports sense. And in the sense Mayweather is quite well known considering he is a foreign sportsman who's sport has a limited following in the UK.

The Hatton fight pushed him into people's awareness and the continued speculation regarding a possible fight with Amir Khan is keeping him relevant even now.

Sports fans yes, do you know how massive football is in this country, floyd mayweather making british news is a massive accomplishment, you look at how many international stars don't make sky sports news as you will see how big an achievement it is.

**** Kobe is non existant on the news in this country but is a huge star in the US, same with any of the top NHL or NFL players, even american track stars don't get any air time, unless you Usain bolt.

And the reason for floyd not being on sky sports was because of the khan issue golden boy had at the time with sky. They initially thought they had the fight but sky weren't airing any boxing ppv events not even for their own british stars.:deal

Floyd is not fastly known in South-Africa neither is pacman or any other title holders in america and uk etc. The people in our rural areas love boxing but dont know these guys becuase allot of the people doesnt have access to the fighs. these fights are not advertised here only on "supersport" (which you have to pay for) in order for you to watch these fights. The people here know tyson, ali and old boxers from sa like brian mitchell etc. I think only 1% knows floyd.

the well know sports here are rugby, cricket and probably the biggest is soccer

That's fair enough. I think people are responding to the names mentioned in the opening post.

Speaking for Middle Class White America, outside of boxing fans, he was unknown until he was on Dancing with the Stars.

Since the dancing show many have heard the name, some recognize the face.

However, nearly everyone knows who Manny Pacquaio is.

    yes Seacroft in Leeds

u are acting like everyone in the uk are sports fans. if that was so then he would be more popular, but a massive % of the general public do not follow sport at all, a massive % loosely follow sport and its only a small% that know about non UK boxers

floyd is well known to uk boxing fans yes, but to the general public he isnt popular at all

You make that sound like a bad thing?

Audely harrison has been brought up through the BBC, they have broadcasted him since he participated in the olympics, they broadcasted his fights to audiences of 8 million plus when he turned professional, this guys was a BBC product before it all went wrong. So how is that a bad thing? Audley is a popular joke in this country.

That's funny because if they know pacquaio they must certainly know who floyd mayweather is considering both are attached to each other now like white on rice:patsch
