The 6'o clock news and the JR show are hardly criteria for judging how well known a foreign sports figure is, the fact is compared to other boxers like; Hopkins, Martinez, Pacquiao, Donaire etc. he is well known maybe he's not a Tyson or Beckham in terms of popularity and he most likely never will be but all things considered he's doing fairly ok in terms of his popularity in the UK, more so then the likes of Roy Jones was in the 90's if you want a comparison.

To the general Public he is not very well known. Hold up a photo of him to Average joe in the street and I bet 1 out of 10 would be able to name him.

In my workplace, all but 3 of the 40-odd people are male sports fans. They all follow something, be it cricket, golf, rugby, football, or whatever. When it comes to a workplace that likes its sports, it's safe to say it's as passionate as most other places. However, outside of me, only one person was aware of a Mayweather fight that had occured. And he didn't even watch it. A complete contrast to the hype generated by a Khan fight, or Haye's clashes with Wlad, Ruiz and Harrison. This has been my experience everywhere I've been. Past workplace, and back in uni. Mayweather was only ever talked about by the casuals when fighting Hatton, but the other times - Mosley, JMM and Ortiz - noone bothered to mention anything about him.

What? no, I'm calling that guy's BS, saying I'm an idiot for saying Floyd is barely known in the UK. when it's the truth, how can I be an idiot for pointign out the general truth of the matter. It's not even like it's a negative against Floyd, he's big in America, why's that guy gota take offense cos I said he's barely known in the UK (truth).

    You guys are crazy man.

Everyone seems to have a different idea of what we mean by 'well known' i'm talking in a comparative and relative terms in regards to foreign sportmen and boxers in general whilst you seem to be talking about popular on a Tiger Woods level.

Sure, when it comes to current foreign fighters, he's at the top of the list, but again, that's not saying much. The threadstarter is talking about the level of Woods, Beckham, Nadal, etc. Floyd comes nowhere near these guys. Compared to them - who are household names here - he practically is a nobody.
