How popular is Khan in England?

Being liked and being popular are 2 different things.

 

everyone who is saying he's no hatton - i think khan is more popular or at least much much beter known than hnatton was at the same stage in their careers... i.e. after the same amount of fights!

he won a lot of people over the other night by showing he has a decent chin....

Race could be a factor, but not the major factor. Because early on in his career he was saying how he would rule the world at 21 even though he was nearly getting knocked out by willie liimond and gomez. Thats why people started to hate on him. I think though since the prescott fight he as matured and thats due to freddy roach. Me personally as a fighter I like him as a person don't know him so I will reserve judgement on that.

 

It's definitely a factor, just like racism is still a factor in the UK.

But even if all those small-minded people were Khan fans...I doubt he would have the fanbase Hatton had/has...yet.

when khan first turned pro believe it or not i was a big fan and joined that forum, you aren't allowed to say anything remotely critical without getting banned, scar was one of the mods there too!

No he said at 21 he would be world champion. Then prescott knocked him out. So some people didn't like him the way he carried himself. Only a minority of people don't like him because of skin colour.
