Very true and also having him in the Matrix also helped ..No one at the time could havde done would Oscar and Tyson did but Jones had his fare share of fame.

No one was as popular as Tyson and Oscar but no one was as talented as Jones back in the 90's you don't get named "Fighter of the Decade" for the 1990s by the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxing_Writers_Association_of_America"]

[/ame] by being just popular ...

Garunteed anyone who knew anything about boxing around the 90's knew who Jones jr .was back then especially after the Olympics fiasco !

I remember him being popular with boxing fans, but he wasn't a major cross-over star like Tyson, Holyfield, and De La Hoya were during the late 90s. Not a knock, but I just don't recall him being a mainstream household name though he certainly had a decent size fanbase.

Was pretty popular but not a huge PPV star.

He actually started to get more popular around the time he took on Ruiz and then fought the Tarver fights in the 2000s.

i would say that he was known by the average sports fan but jones was hardly as popular as oscar or tyson. you can look at what they got paid for fights compared to jones and figure that one out. jones was never really a ppv draw except vs ruiz but fans always recognized him as the best for the most part.

as far as endorsements, jones was part of the jordan brand but he was not on any major commercials that i can remember except for these two. one for the usta and one for espn. not really endorsements.

    I agree.

He was popular in boxing circles, but he never really crossed over.

Wrong. RJJ looked phenomenal beating taxi-drivers, yeah...
If he had fought the best of his era, like Pac did, he wouldve been exposed much earlier. Michaelczewski, Eubank, Benn?
RJJ can be compared to Prince Naseem. As long as he was fighting bums, he looked great. But it was only a matter of time before sbdy exposed him.
RJJ has one of the most disgraceful chins in boxing history, and he always ran from his best opposition.
Comparing such a media-hypejob-clown to an ATG like Manny is :nut

Name the Taxi drivers ? Jones never fought anyone at a catcheweight nor did he fight anyone coming off KO losses.. Ironic how mediocrity gets confused for greatness these days !

You must be fooled by the Manny of late ..You take me as the type that would compare what Pacquio did to Margarito to say Ali Fraizer !

To compare Jones to Hamed speaks volumes about your boxing IQ ..

    You should ban yourself:good
