Benn wouldn't start the proceedings for a divorce from his first wife until his then present girlfriend Sharron agreed to marry him. That was after his loss to Malinga in 96
    Thats not true either.
Benn was so impressed with his purse hike due to King for his fight with Eubank II that he gave him options to co-promote three of his fights. Those options ended with Benn-McClellan. After that Benn agreed to give King another three options because King was promising to get him the Jones fight.

If King was demanding options it would of been for 2-3 fights. It should also be pointed out that Frank ****** disagrees with Jones over King wanting options

    No, you are the idiot.
RJJ always was a protected fraud who was afraid to get into the ring with fighters that had a remote chance of beating him.
And I can't hear this "physically gifted"-bs anymore...legends, thats all it is. As if the physics wouldn't include that disgraceful chin of his + p4p Manny is faster, stronger, and just plain better than RJJ. He isnt even in Mannys league.
RJJ looked great bc he fought bums!!! Even turtles appear to be fast if they fight snails.
RJJ never was the lineal champ bc he was scared to death of Michaelczewski.
Hamed was a greater fighter than RJJ if anything bc he finally took the challenge vs Barrera, RJJ never took any chances.

Roy was a great fighter. But probably the only time he was in Portland, Oregon, airport PDX nobody recognised him and he was wearing boxing gloves around his neck.

To answer the TS question RJJ was very popular. He did not reach the heights of Tyson or Oscar but he did bring out the casual fans and regular sports fanatic.

I hated Roy, but he was the most naturally talented and gifted fighter I have ever seen. I am a HUGE fan of both PBF and Pac but those guys are not even close. For anyone who says otherwise about his talent never saw him box (and i don't mean clips on youtube).

People talk about the fighters that he did not fight but most of them really did not want to fight him and one form or another admit it (CALSLAPPY, EUBANKS).

In terms of popularity, he is on a level below Pac and Floyd:

    Ali/Tyson

    Dela Hoya

    Pac/Floyd

    Jones

I live in the Province of Quebec, in Canada. In the nineties, there was a lot of Roy Jones and De La Hoya fights shown on our local sport channel and most people I know who love boxing (including me) adored Jones Jr back then.

He was clearly not as popular as Tyson, but still popular among casual sports fans because his fights were shown regularly.

    You're talking nonsense!

The fact that Toney found it tough staying out of burger king doesnt mean he was "weight-drained"

He was 44-0 and had been middle weight(160) champ of the world 2 years previously.

By right a 5'9 guy like him should STILL be able to make 168.

If 6'2 guys like Bute and Froch can, so can he. At the very least he should be able to make light heavy.

Hopkins had been a pro for 4-5 years, was 22-1 and hadnt lost since his debut and was 28 years old. Yet you say he was "green".

    GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

He never crossed over... the dogfighting and rooster fighting plus his general thug demeanor made sure that wasn't going to happen. And it shouldn't have. I think the dude is one of the greatest fighters of all time but personally **** him, I wouldn't want him in my house.

In terms of popularity Jones fell behind:

    Tyson,
    DLH
    Chavez
    HOlyfield for Sure.

Hamed was starting to give him a run for his money!

RJJ was easily the most popular and loved boxer outside of Tyson for the era where I live but deserved more recognition than he got, shoulda been bigger than DLH, Tyson etc... everywhere but seems like most places DLH, Chavez and Tyson were bigger names despite not being in Jones' League.

It has to do with that "reluctant Jones" tag he was carrying around!

Roy Jones was not promoted properly.

It makes me LOL hen peopl ehere say that that for example Pac nees to leave Bob Arum asap

All the top money makers have had a top promotor cause these guys know what the hell they are doing.
Today the top dogs are clearly Golden boy and top rank but never count King out.

The biggest money making boxers today Pac and Floyd are promoted by Arum and Golden boy cause they draw the money for them

He wasn't as big as Tyson who I'd seen on newspapers as a kid.

RJJ is my favorite boxer and the first I ever seen em was when my friend kicked my ass with him on fight night
