How serious do you think Ward's offer to fight GGG at 168 was?

Calling someone out on Twitter and not ever once making an offer has been Lara's game so far.

If he really wanted to fight GGG like he says, why doesn't he move from Haymon so the fight can happen, or at least win a significant fight at middleweight, or try and become GGG's mado.

The amount of running Lara did from Canelo, I find it hard to believe he's that eager to take on Golovkin.

Well mainly because Lara is not a big draw. Along with Rigo he's one of the highest risk/lowest reward fighters out there. He's not in a position to select his opponents. GGG would be a big payday for him (his second best after Canelo) and he doesn't have a 0 or major belt to protect. I think it'd not make sense for him to refuse the fight.

 

Ah. Apologies. In fairness in Froch's shoes I probably would've retired after that Groves Wembley payday and bummed Rachael on a regular basis.

lol at these posters making excuses for Golovkin not fighting Lara but having a problem with Mayweather not facing Golovkin at 154, a weight Golovkin has never fought at. Golovkin could have fought and beat Lara at 154, earned a belt at that weight and then made a better case for a Mayweather fight.

And for the record, Lara doesn't hold a belt other than a interim belt at 154, so why should GGG drop down in weight for a man who can't draw Chris Arreola to a buffet.

That would be like expecting Mayweather to drop down to 140 to face Viktor Postol.

It was a joke offer.

168, 50/50, a year away was essentially Andre taking out a call option on GGG's upside. Ward would've gotten to cash in on any new popularity Golovkin generated while having to do nothing himself to build his profile.

If you're pulling up a smaller fighter who is also the bigger box office draw, you can't expect 50/50. You certainly can't expect to lock in that great of a split now on a fighter whose popularity is still growing and will be higher a year from now.
