Chris Byrd had some success he won a few rounds but Vitali was still ahead in the score cards. Odlanier Solis showed some good combos before his knee blew up.

So whats the key to beat Vitali Klitschko? How can short fighter do it?

The kinds of fighters that have successfully overcome this sort of physical disparity have always had some sort of equalizer.

Usually they have been an exceptional finisher, and hard to hit with it.

Sometimes they have done it based on speed and technique, but this is generally not enough.

Chris Byrd did more than win a few rounds , he won the fight. The key is to counter him , which Byrd was able to do at will.

    Vitali isn't hard to beat.

Either hit hard enough to drive him back, be cute enough defensively to beat him in the pocket or be exceptionally quick and beat him from range.

I think his lack of offensive variety would hurt him against a pressure fighter in the mold of Joe Frazier. His straight punching and lack of an uppercut and solid inside game would not play well against a bob and weave swarmer. His fight with Chisora demonstrated that even if he was over the hill at that point.
