How shot do you think Roy Jones is now after recent fights?

Jones got caught by a perfect punch by Del Valle, but survived easy because he was prime.

A different story later in his career.

Jones was such a magnificent physical specimen back then, but he looks kinda old and puffy now.

Hopkins beat a fat out of shape Trinidad if you look at it that way. Trinidad was a former WW.
As for Sheika. Lets not forget how Jones handled Sheika with ease yet Sheika gave Diaconu a tough fight.
Jones looked troubled by Del Valle. If that had of happend now, you would say its because hes shot, but I have shown it looked no different when he was prime.

    Look at Headbangers sensational post

As he notes if it was Jones considered prime handling Lacy and Sheika like he did, we would all marvel at the ease he won

His win over tarver was his last great performance.

Since that point he's achieved very little compared to what he achieved prior. He's looked half the man pretty much.

Crushing losses to tarver, johnson, joe, green, hopkins and dennis clearly demonstrate how far he's slipped. This slip is not offset by crushing victories over tito, sheika and lacy.

At times his handspeed and power impresses as much as it always has. However his reflexes and punch resistance have fallen too far for him to be considered anything but shot.

Reggie Johnson was holding the IBF LHW strap when he got to Jones, coming off 3 wins. If he's shot because he lost to Jackson and Castro, well Jackson lost to Castro as well but Jones whooped HIS azz before any of them even got the chance to "ruin" each other. Quite an underrated win on Jones' part.

I also like the fact that "5 years" is noted but Virgil Hill is within that 5 year span leading up to Ruiz, albeit at the edge of it.

If Johnson is in that "legitimate world class" range, then what does that make of Woods who went 1-1-1 with Johnson?

When it comes to ranked light heavyweights, the only real recurring name that never got eliminated was Michalczewski. Of course though, obliterating the other 7-8 isnt really much of an accomplishment. :hey

Remember back when Roy was shot in 2004?

Now he's a shot version of that shot version.

  7. Bailey surely, you can acknowledge the trinidad hopkins beat, was a much better trinidad than jones beat regardless of whether or not he was a prime ww

I was addressing the fact that you called him shot. He was consistently a top 4 LHW
By decision, whereas he got KTFO by Roy
The point isn't the decision but the fact that they were competitive with each other, whereas Woods simply wasn't in the same planet as Roy when they fought
Take 2001-02 for example, here are the top 10 LHWs per Ring Magazine

    Jones

    Michalczewski

In red are the ones he had fought or will end up fighting soon. Not in red are the ones he missed. Kind of a ghost town isnt it?

This is how i see it.
Looses too much weight against Tarver and looks bad.
Tarver lands a once in a lifetime shot and buts Jones to sleep.
Jones is mentally broken against Johnson and gets KO´d again.
Now he is old man who got brutally KO´d in back to back fights.

He was not in his Prime when he fought Calzahe or Green. By the time he got to the second Tarver fight, Jones was declining.

Personally I think the weight loss was an issue for the first Tarver fight. He was fine after that. Hauser interviewed him during his camp for Tarver II
Tarver was working on that punch in camp. I remember McGirt breaking down his strategy for Jones going into the 2nd fight.
I think he injured his brain after that Glen Johnson ko. His punch resistance really dropped after that ko.

What was the difference between them besides weight, and Trinidad has not done well overall at MW and above besides a win over Joppy where there was a glove wrap query
