Was he 80% of the fighter he was versus, let's say, Povetkin. Is that fair. So was it still a solid win on Big Daddy's part. Granted, Browne was seemingly being outboxed, but that will happen in most Big Daddy fights. He's admitted this. And to knock Chagaev down heavily is no mean feat. Has he ever been down before? Also, Chag was only 38. So he wasn't ancient and actually looked in okay shape. Maybe a little extra padding; but it wasn't horrendous by any stretch of the imagination. Should we be giving Big Daddy a little more credit for this win? Are we underestimating his one punch chances vs Whyte? Can he outbox Whyte if he was competitive vs an elite level technical operator like Chag? I'm predicting a Whyte win, but looking back recently at the Chag fight - maybe his chances are higher than I initially conceived. Thoughts lads..?
He was in bad shape (maybe 40% of his prime) but Chagaev is done since years he was already a little past it at his fight with Wladimir in 2009
He wasn't shot enough to keep him from blasting Pianeta out of the ring in 1 round, while Pianeta isn't all that great, but even Wlad needed 6 rounds to stop him, Chagaev didn't look nearly as bad vs. Pianeta and Browne as he did against Fres, which I think was just a one off bad performance, based on Fres's shitty style, he wasn't nearly as shot as many think.
Yep. Fres is tricky but that's not a good result. Hmm. Just not sure how to gauge the Browne win over Chag
Yeah, it's a tough one eh? I had a look back at the Pianeta ko against Chag and damn was that susepct. The whole round by Pianeta was weird. I not saying, but.....
Yep I guess. Saying that I worry about Big Dad's chin and I don't know why. There's no reason to but Chag absolutely floored him and I have a premonition that Whyte is going to brutally stop Browne at some stage on the account of his big left hook
Browne vs Whyte will be either a slug fest or a shitshow... I am affraid this would get uglier than the last fight of Whyte.
I wouldn't really worry about it, Whyte's power is vastly overrated, I have no evidence Whyte hits as hard or harder than Chagaev, and he doesn't have the advantage of being a southpaw like Chag did. He couldn't stop Helenius, and Duhaupas beat the living **** out of him, Johann is quite the featherfist, and personally I don't think it'll last all that long, I see Whyte getting sparked the **** out, and fairly quick. Whyte was rocked to the core multiple times by Chisora, and I can almost guarantee that Browne hits like 50 times harder than Del Boy.
38 years of age is EXTREMELY old for a short, pressure fighter who uses such a style like Ruslan Chagaev. So yes, he was WAY past his best against Lucas Browne. And you really can't say 'Ruslan Chagaev was ONLY 38' when very few, if any past heavyweight pressure fighter had more success than Chagaev at heavyweight after that age.
Yeah, I think it will be entertaining. As Browne said, Whyte has a predilection for turning things into slugfests. Which will bode well for Whyte I believe. The more boring the fight the better off Browne is peppering Whyte with his straight shots. As Whyte tries to get inside then Browne could set up for a counter ala Chagaev KO. But I believe Whyte will be ready for that and rough Browne up. Just not sure how good Daddy is to counteract that. It could get ugly for Browne and an early whyte KO isn't impossible
37 years old, 10-15lbs overweight, only fought twice in 2 years, he was clearly well past his best. But probably not completely shot, he was beating Browne before he got caught. I'd say he was about 70% of the fighter he was. Not completely shot but was ready to be taken but anyone half decent.
Would Whyte beat a 70% Chag? 9 out of ten times one could say yes he'd UD him. Browne vs 70% Chag ten times would probably end up 7-3 chag. Styles make fights of course. But Whyte can box a bit and I rekon Helenius would be about Browne's level minus some power. Whyte's been active too; Browne hasn't.
The first thing I noticed at the open workout yesterday, was when Whyte was hitting the pads, it was pitty-pat scratch. When Browne was hitting the pads, there was a thunderous and booming echo throughout the arena, people were in awe of Browne's size and power. Where Browne's boxing skills and age are concerned, im not too worried, he's like a fine wine who improves every fight, his current trainer has been really good for him. A real genuine 50/50 fight this one, either Browne by KO or Whyte by boring UD avoiding Browne's power all night.
