Um I was thinking of doing boxing to lose some pounds. I'm a little flabby and I wanted to do some Boxing. BTW I'm not getting into Boxing I would rather do MMA. Plus i'm thinking about doing a Boxing toughman comp. What steps should I take? Like how should I train?
If you can't wall sit for at least 40 minutes you have no business in boxing or any combat sport for that matter.
Go into a Boxing gym and tell them that the stand-up game is for pansy's, and that you'd eat them all alive with your Jiu-Jitsu. You really can't go wrong... Good luck! :good
uhhh... Why would it be a joke? Is core/leg strength/endurance a joke? Is anaerobic conditioning a joke? Better get started with those wall sits.
So.....lemme get this straight....you wanna do boxing.....but....you don't really wanna do boxing? Well fuk me.....how do you want us to answer this..... Just start by doing wall sits.....the answer usually comes in a meditative state. Then start by doing a toughman contest with no training, then post the video....because no matter how many times I see it on America's Funniest Home Videos....something about fat people falling down that just never gets old....
Love the training section :good To answer the question, you just go to a gym, they'll ask you if you have any experience, tell them no but you want to get in shape and train for a Toughman competition. They'll get you in shape and train you wit the other beginners until they deem you ready or until you foolishly decide you're ready :good
Go to your nearest fight gym, step in the ring, get punched in your face a few times (or even better in your solar plexus), think it over, then come back to the message board. We can help you from there.
If straight up walking into a gym and training is too confronting and i understand it is for some people. Many gyms offer group boxercise workouts. They can be a great introduction to the boxing gym, you will get a taste of hard work and hopefully making a commitment to showing up a few days a week. Once the fitness feels good enough, and the willingness to improve your technique is there, then you can speak with a trainer on how to start boxing.
This is excellent advice. Boxercise classes can be as challenging as any bootcamp type class. Never assume you're too cool to join one, the cardio is a starting point for the type of fitness you need to BEGIN training as a boxer. If you cannot make it through a boxercise class, you are clearly not ready. Once you are among the best in the class, you can be taken somewhat seriously. I compete, but also happen to instruct a weekly class at my own gym. The regulars are in excellent shape. Anytime guys tell me they are interested in sparring/competing, this is exactly what I suggest they do FIRST.
