How Should Ricky Hatton be remembered?

    Looking at Hattons career it definately missed a level which I think would have shown what a good little fighter he was.From domestic and European level to defending the WBU title way too many times against B level fighters.He then got his big chance against a very good fighter in Tszyu. I wouldnt call Tszyu great a just a bit below Oscar , Floyd and Shane who were on the radar at the time.He then took too much of a jump in fighting Floyd and Manny with both being infinately better in all departments.But who do you think Hatton should be compared to in quality ?, from todays current fighters I would put him somewhere between Cotto and timothy bradly , a good fighter , does everything pretty well but not elite. Cotto would slice him up and is still a shade too much , but I think Hatton would dominate a solid fighter in Bradley.thoughts?

    Not sure but at light welter with rios,Matthysse,khan,Garcia there would be some great fights.I think he had some decent wins people forget after tzyu,and because of his style was always in tough fights because he took too many shots

    Ricky was one of those guys who established himself as a very good champion, but fell short of greatness. He has a signature win and overall good depth in his resume, but the devastating defeats against Floyd and Manny definitely set him in his place. (as a world class, but not elite boxer).

    He's a definite HOFer who only lost to the 2 best fighters in the World if you ignore the comeback attempt.

    Marks against him for not attempting to unify the division but he was better than any of the current crop at 140.

    World Class fighter who always gave it his all had some quality wins but just fell short at the very highest level, had a massive effect on the sport in Britain raising Boxing's profile as a real fans favourite. Former 2 weight champ, Lineal at LWW in the P4P top 10 for 4 years running and was also the 2005 fighter of the year.

    A better thread title would be "How should Ricky Hatton be forgotten?", because he will never be forgotten. A great underrated fighter and an even greater human being. Very entertaining, funny, loyal to his fans, always eager to please, rare and last but not least always fought the best unlike many fighters out there.

    He will be constantly overrated as he went from doing OK at B+ level, skipping A- level, going straight to A+ and getting embarrassingly KO'd. Because of this, his fans will always say "he only lost to the two best fighters of this generation".

    The reality is he's a guy who used a lot of wrestling and ugly tactics effectively, had very poor boxing skills for the level he fought at, and a massive fan base that overrates him and will continue to do so.

    All Ricky had to do was dance to the final bell, his last fight still pisses me off.


    Hatton should be rememebered as a champ with all the heart in the world, Shame *******s discredit how good Hatton truly was after Pac laid out a Ricky battling demons

    I will always remember him as overrated. His style of maul and grab was ugly as hell and he struggled with B level fighters like Luis Collazo. Didn't like him at all. But he was a solid B - fighter

    LOL Pacquiao lays out any Hatton ever. Please stop with this Hatton was shot nonsense. The guy didn't have the skills or ANY of the natural attributes to compete with guys like Mayweather/Pacquiao regardless of the condition of either side.

    Face first mauler/brawler vs. fast handed power puncher, you do the math.
