Yup, that was the most 'famous' KO punch in history. But I think Jersey Joe's KO of Charles is the 'finest' KO ever seen in a boxing ring :good

Walcott hurt his right hand in the second round if I'm not mistaken and fought one handed...Layne outworked him as a result. Given that Walcott's success depended on a two handed attack and Layne was no slouch I'm not surprised by the result.

Its legitimate but I have to shake my head when people try to use it as a fair guage of the man. The injury must be took into consideration, if Walcott could use his right properly, I doubt he would have lost to the open Layne. Still Layne deserves credit for taking the fight to a vulnerable great.

Are you sure you are not confusing this incident with Maxim1 fight, Mongoose?

Use google or just check my post history...

I've sourced that about a hundred times.

Any prime losses should count against a man imo.

Why was there never a rematch?

Facts should not be ignored however.

Because he still got his title shot against Charles once his injuries healed, which is telling I think.

Factor in 3 title fights with Charles and fights with the new #1 contender Marciano. No room for Layne.

I'm not ignoring any facts. I'm just saying I hold a loss in his prime against him. I'm not saying to what degree.

Jersey Joe Walcott can not be overlooked as an ATG at heavyweight. He had the misfortune to be boxing and working early on in his career and feeding a family and not himself. When Felix Bonconchio took him over there was improvement in condition and lets face it he had some great wins leading up to Marciano which was a great classic fight. He was a late bloomer but had to share a decade with Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano as well as Ezzard Charles. Most of the more knowledgeable experts rate Walcott on his best nights as one who could upset anyone. I give him a great chance to upset Tyson,Foreman, and a excellent stylistic chance against Ali
