Fury`s defense was far better than Wilder`s in this fight, will Wilder have to work on his defense to beat Fury in a rematch?

I don't think Wilder will have the ability to change much, his only chance is either Fury not being in great shape for the rematch or him landing a KO punch. He was so out boxed its difficult to see how he can become a different fighter, he said there was stuff he wasn't doing that he should have but the fact is Fury didn't allow him to, he was too fast and his movement had wilder confused.

It will be the same again but the only difference is Fury had the boxing IQ and ability to adapt, Wilder doesn't have that. At times Wilder looked in awe of what he was facing to me, his face told the story, he didn't know what to do. Rematches like that don't usually go better for the guy having problems. If Fury landed a bit more and didn't go down it would have been close to a Calzaghe v Lacy display of being outclassed imo.

I give Wilder a solid 1 out of 10 points for his attempt of a defense.

Shockingly poor. Would love to see how convincingly Parker would deal with Wilder.

2 outta 10 here. No head movement, feet are flat and rock based all fight, keeps his hands low constantly, swings like a wild amateur at times and doesn't throw straight punches. I said before that if he threw straights instead of homerun looping shots, he would be better off technique wise.

2/10. Didn’t get overly exposed because Fury ain’t a heavy hitter. Fury exposed Wilders’ poor boxing skills, AJ will expose his defence by flattening him.

    Usually 3/10, vs Fury 1/10
    .
His defence is very reliant on his size and reach. He usually has no guard hands down, using head an upper body movement to slip shots and counter opponents from a safe distance. But this is usually against shorter guys where he can control the range much more easily.

When he faced Fury he couldn't just sit back and counter or stand his ground and wait for Fury to come to him, he had to chase and cut off the ring and doing what he normally does, hands down, while coming in would of seen him get caught coming in, so he was forced to use a higher guard and walk in which he isn't used to doing, so he looked stiff. He hasn't learn to catch and counter like Joshua or slip in and counter so his defence was very poor in the Fury fight.

It’s nit good but not terrible. He is athletic and rangy enough not to be hit cleanly.

His best defense is actually the threat of his offense. Opponents never fully commit to their punches because of the fear of getting caught with that dynamite right hand.

After the first double jab, right hand from Joshua, Joshua KO1 Wilder. Sometimes I wonder if those who talk up Wilders power have ever even seen a Joshua fight. To be fair to Wilder, he was trying to come forward all night. Wilder has been very sloppy both defensively and offensively on his front foot his whole career, he's not a cut em off, hunt em down and beat em up fighter, he's always lacked that skill set to be an effective fighter on the front foot minus his power. Loves to jab and paw on the back foot from a distance and set up the counter right hand, catch his opponents coming in. Whilst his guard and footwork are still very average at best, he's much better suited to simply using his natural height and reach advantages to control the range and get out of the way of shots on his back foot. He will be in big trouble vs Joshua right from the get-go, it won't be the soft hands of Washington and Fury slapping him in the face, he'll have the bazookas of Joshua exploding in his face, in another fight where his height and reach advantages are neutralised against a fighter with very good boxing skills and the best power in the division.

Solid 3. Remember, he CAN take a punch . I doubt Joshua hits harder than Ortiz.
