Good thread, one hit much harder (Mike Tyson), the other was very fast, could box, could hit but had issues with his chin as champion (Floyd Patterson) Both were well cared for by a great trainer, maybe overly.
They were probably much closer in their fighting styles than many would like to believe. Obviously, in many ways, Tyson was a better version of that general style of fighting.
Patterson was much better at pacing himself and winning rounds. Had better ring general ship in my opinion. Tyson was simply bigger and stronger and could overpower people with his athleticism in comparison.
Tyson - Bigger, Stronger, Harder Puncher, Better Chin, Better Offensively, Better Defensively (slightly) Patterson - Faster (slightly), Better Inside-Fighter, Better Technician (slightly), Better Stamina, Better Work-Rate, More Heart, Better Conditioning, More Resilient
Not hard to see why Cus had such high hopes for Tyson. He had the embryo of a bigger version of Patterson, with power up there with nearly anybody, and a cast iron chin. Why wouldn't he expect that formula to be successful?
You know I might have to disagree with you here my friend. I think Tyson was just given the things Floyd wasn't at birth and wasn't necessarily the better boxer though it is relatively close.
floyd wasnt a counterer he was more brawler mike was mid range floyd was more close floyd threw combos usually out of random mike threw 3-4 combos usually from counters or seeing a person is hurt already mike changed angles at anytime once he seen his victim had bad defense to catch them off guard I called them switches for mike so no not that similar at all mike as seen here was way more advanced and hit way harder mike never would lose to son since sonny was way to slow basic and easy to read
