How "skilled" to do consider Pacquiao?

Rhythm and control of it helps disrupt timing and foresight

people underrate the skills because they're pretty subtle and not something as general as "counter-punching" or "accuracy"

The sweet science is not dead-set. It continually evolves as trainers, boxers, analysts, and fans of all sorts try to categorize new things that were once considered unorthodox and chaotic.

He's good at what he's designated to do, only decent at other abilities, and completely lacking in certain areas.

Real good at fighting mid-range. Decent at fighting on the outside. Can't fight in the phone booth, clinches, and dirty for ****. Head movement is good but not great. Can't parry that well.

It's hard to call him an "offensive master" when he can't even fight on the inside, in the clinches, and dirty but "DEFENSE masters" like Bernard, Floyd, and Pernell can. emmanuel lacks the "thug mentality" that American fighters have that make them willing to fight dirty, at close ranges, and through clinches. He's a politician that wants to keep it clean compared to Americans who are from the ghetto, that will give it to you raw and uncut, and aren't afraid to let people know.

His jab and ability to box backwards is overlooked and underrated.

His style relies a lot on being emmanuel or his athleticism. He can't make the adjustments to adapt when he runs into someone smart and/or more athletic. We saw this in the Marquez and 1st Morales fight.

Hes great at what he does, just like Floyd. You compare Floyds defense he is supreme at that, but he cant match Pacmans volume, activity, or power. It all balances out man. Not many can do what Floyd or Manny do.

Heres a blown up Pacquiao showing some skill.. nice combinations punching , good feet defensively & good heart to get through a fight with the Monster Margarito. I like @ 2.48 when he finished unleashing a combo on Margarito. He was like "wtf", this dude aint going down

The Pac from the morales fight was still green. He relied mostly on his left hand. You watch him now and he's a completely different fighter. His right is as deadly as his left and his balance has improved a lot.

I mean why would you even ask that question?? How the **** do u accomplish what he has accomplished if you dont have skills??

No one can match emmanuel at emmanuel's chosen style of offense, but there's other guys around who have a more versatile offense than him.

People like Bernard and Floyd Jr are GREAT at fighting in phone booths, inside of clinches, and dirty. emmanuel can't do any of those things.

Extremely skilled fighter. Top 3 or 5 right now, like most would say. He's got some weird ass punches that just looks off balance, like the way he took away Cotto's jab starting from round 2, or able to sneak in a weird hooker-cut to send someone to the canvas for a quick knockdown.

His ability to counter is underrated. Just because someone else is the best counterpuncher in the game and specialty, doesn't mean Manny can't counter. A few of his last KD's happened when his opponent is throwing a punch.

He's just too kind in the ring lately. I don't know if it's stamina issues, but it's causing some of the worse anti-pacfans to believe Cotto was actually "winning the last few rounds" when he was on his bike, or believe Manny can't cut the ring effectively. He was looking at the ref half the time. Some mother****er actually scored the Pac-Margo fight was a 116-112.

We all know he has skills. I think tony meant how skilled is he in an all time sense. That's why I didn't just leave my answer at one of the most skilled 5 fighters of today.

is skills set arent the usual skills the purists are accustomed to. He'd be criticized for not having the tools being taught by trainers the old fashioned way. Its unorthodox and some will find it one dimensional.

That was the fight that made me a Pac fan. He was getting his ass kicked by a ATG veteran, yet this young scrappy kid just kept on fighting. He showed his heart and relied on his talent to stay in the fight. You can look at it like this, you either see it ass him getting his ass kicked or like me, was amazed that he didn't fold cuz mere mortals surely would have. He kept on going and well the rest is history right?

Many said Pac does not have head movement. After watching this video, yes, he doesn't bend his neck left, right, front, and back like most boxers do. The way he avoids an incoming punch is to move his whole body from the legs up with subtle movement of the head. This allows him to be always in position to counter punch.

Floyd Sr. dont know **** about non textbook fighter like Pac.

    1. Floyd - The best defensive and very highly skilled.
    2. Donaire - Floyd and Pac combined.
    3. Pacquiao - The best non textbook fighter. (Energizer Bunny)

I don't see Pacquiao traits in Donaire, aside from the fact that they throw nasty left hands.

I don't either. Resembles more Floyd than Pac.
