emmanuel not being forced onto the inside much doesn't show in any way that he can fight on the inside.
His 'delivery system' has become considerably more multi-faceted over the course of the past few years, and he's boxed a lot better defensively ever since his second fight with Marquez (and his performance in that regard was a lot better than it was the first time they fought). Offensively, the only thing that seems truly lacking in his repertoire is an uppercut (he tends to rely more on straight punches and hooks). His jab is thrown more as a distraction than as a weapon, but it's still there and it does help him to establish his range. Defensively, he's become a lot better, although he still seems vulnerable to the straight right, and occasionally reverts to moving straight back to avoid blows. And his ability to counter-punch was what allowed him to overwhelm Hatton and Diaz, and to ultimately grind down and stop a determined and quite skilled Miguel Cotto. But on the whole, he's really refined his style and become a lot more versatile than he had been even when he was beating the likes of MAB and Morales at featherweight and jr. lightweight.
It's not a requirement. It's required for fighters with slow feet. It's much more effective to keep things at mid to long range and punish them there. You act as if it's a necessity to have in order for that fighter to be called the best offensively. It isn't. All he needs to do is beat down all caliber of opponents with efficiency and be the best at it...and he is the best at what he does.
Being able to be effective at all ranges and having versatility makes your offense better. emmanuel is not the best offensive fighter ever during Jim Lampley's career. Not everyone who fights on the inside has slow feet either.
To answer the highlighted part, he would look exactly like JMM! He makes a fight against a C class fighter like Katsidis, a gandfather Casamayor epic fights - Fight -of - the Year nominee fights, when he should be shutting them out.
he's a complete offense/defense boxer now with excellent footwork and exciting accurate puncher! also a gentleman on the ring!
I think he's a very athletic fighter. His offense is his defense and the day his legs and hand speed slow down, he will have Roy Jones(post prime)-esque results. His actual skill is decent, his athleticism is superb.
