To take on HWs, good ones at that he had to be freakishly strong, to be able to control them in clinches and so forth but in that footage of him training he doesnt look very strong at all, in fact he looks quite the opposite, Was strength part of Greb's skillset? Robinson took on Maxim and he was not known as very strong at all. Also need something else clearing up, I've read Greb had a heart like Armstrong, which was abnormally large, medical reoprs showed this after he died, this is why he oculd keep up at the furious pace he fought for 15 rounds, is ther any truth to this?

First Ive ever heard of it. I have his death certificate and there is no mention of it. In fact Im fairly certain, given the statements of the two doctors in attendance, that no autopsy was done.

oh, must have been made up then, still its an amzing feat to fight like that for 15 rounds, musta been really conditioned to do that especially agaisnt guys weighing more than him.

What say you klompton, was Greb known as a strong fighter?

He had to be very strong, yet he had to possess more than strength to compete with larger men. Speed and cleverness allowed him to compete at higher weights.

I wouldn't come to the conclusion that Greb wasn't strong based on pictures and film. He hardly looked like a pushover:

When you increase cardio vascular capacity and your VO2 max your heart will become enlarged like other muscles to handle the increased output. Greb was likely very very fit

great picture, I guess he was very strong and very fit too, he certainly looks both. but then again, it is not really essential to be incredibly strong beating good, big fighters, is it?

He was definately strong. In one of his fights they talk about him manhandling and pushing around Big Bill Brennan who was pretty big and pretty muscular. But I dont know that it was that strength that allowed him to compete with heavyweights so much as his speed and stamina.

  11. looking at the above picture i doupt his sucsess was down to his strength more to his boxing ability

He was very strong for his weight. In all his fights[300],he was never outroughed. The picture above is not as imposing on some other photos of Greb.
In one of his bouts,Harry threatened the referee, burley Marvin Hart, that he[Greb] would
throw him out of the RING,if Hart intervened with Greb in a bout. Hart acquiesced !
Tough as rawhide was Harry Greb, and twice as fast...

I wouldn't say any picture of Greb is "imposing". He was not the biggest guy out there but you knew he was tough. He did not for example look like a Bob Moha but that didn't stop him from beating Moha up several times.

Bob Moha, one of the many Harry Greb victims

GA, NO ONE looked like Bob Moha, pictured above. Moha was called the "Pocket Hercules",because of his extroadinary muscular build. Little ole
Harry took care of this behemoth,as usual...:good
