Bob Moha looks like he has a very much "modern" physique. does anyone know or have any idea of hte type of training habits he undertook. I wonder whether he did a lot of weight lifting.

B.Bob Moha was born "massive". He was only 5ft4", and was called the
"white Joe Walcott ". He was a veritable bull in the ring, limited as a boxer, but was a dangerous man to meet in the ring. in 1914 he met another
powerful man Jack Dillon ,"the white Sam Langford ",and lost a decision.Moha was a guy you didn't want to meet in a dark alley, methinks...

Guess we will have to wait for a fight film to completly answer it weather or not it was his strength that worked more for him or his speed/stamina.

There is another thread going on in this forum about which middleweight had the best build of all time. After seeing the picture of Bob Moha, I would say that he is definitely up there.

No one looked like Harry Greb. He had the features of a hungry owl, looking for a meal, and he didn't give a hoot !

I'd say it is almost essential for a middleweight or (< MW) to be a considerable strong man to handle ~heavyweights. The newspaper accounts are consistent in their observations of Greb relying on speed and mobility and output to beat his men, but that doesn't mean that those tactics are all that was needed.

Considering those guys who fared well against big or bigger men (Walcott, Walker, Burley, Duran), a pattern may be seen. Of course, there are exceptions, but I'd say that durability and strength seems to be at least as important as speed -though less important than skill.

No doubt Harry was reasonably strong atleast for his weight, and I've seen him described as 'durabe' which does relate to strength. I just wondered if he was freakisly strong like Jeffries or Fitz.

    I respectfully disagree.

Considering that all he did to train (allegedly) was bagwork, sparring and fighting itself, I'd say he looks pretty damn stacked.

That's not what I'd consider "imposing". He looks every bit like the rough and tough fighter he was no doubt, but not exactly a superman who would throw around 200+ pound heavyweights with ease. You could believe that out of Bob Moha based on a picture, but not Greb.

I would hazard a guess that Greb had average strength for a middleweight, but,[according to Tommy Loughran,]he had freakish powers of endurance ,couple this with extraordinary ability to get off punches , from unorthodox angles and then get back out of range , momentarily regroup, and pile in again, maintaining a killing pace all the while, he must have been an absolute nightmare to fight.

Klompton has the inside info on this guy.
    One of a kind.

Size, chin, stamina, strength, reach, all take a back seat to the one central quality necessary in any great: belief. It really can't be explained any more exactly. Greb was as awkward and crude the day he stepped in the ring as the final day he stepped out of it! As strong as floyd's belief in being able to escape any situation was Greb's belief he could simply overwhelm any situation

TGA, Harry Greb in other photos Iv'e seen of him, had great bicep definition
since he was young. No weightlifting was needed for Geb to have this set of "guns". His strength was a natural robust physique that allowed him to maintain above average strength for a middleweight, during the entire course of a 15 round bout. Whereas some musclebound fighters who may look more
"imposing" in a photo, than a Greb ,lose much of there energy in later rounds,
lugging photogenic muscles around.Greb was unique in that he outsped the fast men, whilst outroughing the muscle men. Any man that can fight 45 times in ONE year, without a loss, had to have inordinate strength and
endurance, probably never seen before or since...P4P ,the greatest. :good
